Greetings to all Amilo users
This weekend I got my hands on a new Amilo Li2727. My friend bought it and since her budget was very limited she bought a version without operating system (with live Linux to be exact). Since she's only familiar with Windows XP she naturally wanted to use XP on her new notebook. She is also not very familiar with installing os & programs so she asked me if I could help her.
I first went on FSC's support paged to download the XP drivers. I quickly discovered that Vista is the only supported OS on this notebook, so I can't count on FSC for any help. Then i googled a little and surprisingly no solution could be found. So it was time for plan B
Plan B means I had to note down the components details and search for the drivers one by one (chipset, graphics, lan, wlan...). After that more googeling and quite soon I had some drivers that might work.
So time to make the installation. First thing was to sleepstream the SATA drivers to the XP installation CD (I've already written about this in this thread). And while I was at it I also integrated XP SP3 in the new installation CD.
XP installed normally, no errors during the installation. Then it was time to install the drivers. The device manager was missing the following drivers:
- Audio
- Graphics
- Touchpad
- wlan
- sm bus
- lan
So I went and installed the drivers that I found earlier. To my surprise the installation went quite smoothly and the devices were quickly installed The only exception were lan & wlan. To get the wlan going I had to find the FSC launch manager (couse you have to turn on the wlan via the Fn+F1 key). I decided to test the Vista version and it worked As for the lan, I discovered that if you manually install the driver it works.
Since this whole thing took quite some time I decided to post this here and also to share the drivers with you. Who knows, maybe someone will decide to upgrade from Vista to XP
If you need any help, give me a shout.
