[Amilo M] Memory upgrade on AMILO M3438G

Postby inge06 » Thu Jun 28, 2007 18:59

Hello,
I wanted to upgrade my laptop up to 2Gb of RAM. I figured out that my Amilo M3438G has two modules of 512Mb of DDR2 - PC2 3200 (400Mhz) installed (checked with Everest, and also by opening the computer)

So I have bought two modules of 1Gb (Kingston KVR400D2S3/1G) to replace them.
But once I have installed them, the computer doesn't boot anymore!!
Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong?

I have seen on another subject that it's possible to install PC4200 modules.
Is that true??

Thank you for your help!

I'm interesting in upgrading to 2GB. Can anyone help with how to get to the RAM ? Short of taking of the whole back cover I've checked everywhere it might be !

@Largeparts: The ram modules will be revealed, if you open the largest compartment on the bottom of your laptop.

Place the laptop bottomed up. Set the laptop's battery facing "north". Unscrew and open the biggest compartment (should be the "west" one...).

There you will see, the fan system, the wireless module and the ram modules (one atop the other).

The ram modules are in the "east" side of the opened compartment.

@inge06: Maybe the modules are not installed properly. Have you put them allright in the slots, pushing them a bit downwards and hearing the click from the mechanism that fixes them in place?

Does the computer start the booting procedure, or it does not even start?

Maybe one of the modules you installed is "dead".

As about your other question, the answer is that m3438 supports PC4200 modules. It is listed in the manual of your laptop.

Cheers.
