ATI latest drivers - in this topic

Postby shtraue » Thu Sep 21, 2006 8:11

Due to that FSC does not provide latest ATI drivers, and ATI site itself provides link only to the useless "Installation Verification Software" which will not let you to download drivers, here in this topic I will give the direct link to the latest ATI Catalyst Mobility for Windows XP (I'm not sure if this set of drivers is supposed to work with Windows 2000 as well):

Catalyst for M6P?

Postby SamHam » Wed Nov 01, 2006 12:41

Hi!
From what I understand, these drivers ONLY apply to the newer ATI graphis card (from Radeon 9600 series)? Have you had any luck in finding any drivers for older cards, like M6P (for Amilo D 6800)? I've found some drivers from 2002, thou they were not downloaded directly from ATI's homepage (they work fine).

As of Catalyst 6.6, supported cards are from Radeon 9600 (or maybe 9500) and up. For older cards you'll have to use Catalyst 6.5, or try to mod latest non-mobile ATI drivers with DH Mod tool.

Ati Radeon M6P

Postby SamHam » Sun Nov 05, 2006 19:44

Hi again!
I checked the web for some drivers, and it seems that omegadrivers.net has a version based on the ATI catalyst 6.5 that work flawlessly with a M6P. And from what I understand, it probably works with all ATI mobility cards.

Be careful when using non-original drivers - this especially applies for notebook graphic. As mobile graphic chipset have different construction, it might require driver written specially for it. As for situation with unified drivers (that can work with multiple cards) as Catalysts are - although Catalyst have support for Radeon 9500, they include older driver (don't remember from which release). Why? Because most patches are applied during first couple months after the release of chip. After that period there is no need for writing new driver.

Doesn't work for Pa1510

Postby bkotsias » Thu Jan 11, 2007 19:58

Unfortunately, the direct link doesn't work for an Amilo Pa1510 (Xpress 1100 128MB Shared). It ends promptly with the error "No compatilbe drivers found for this hardware or OS".

Are there any (new) compatible drivers provided from ATI?

Since you have mentioned here, that you have tried x200 drivers (and so far as I know x200 and x1100 are kind of a same thing, but not entirely of course), I have no other suggestion, but for you to try to mod drivers yourself, or wait for the 7.1 modded drivers, like Omega Drivers.

* Catalyst Mobility 7.4 for Windows XP

*About Windows Vista, - ATI no longer provides the drivers (no direct link at least), and says that you have to go to your notebook manufacturer, and get the drivers from it.

Which of course is stupid, unfortunate and inconvenient for us consumers, as we all know that it means the long driver delays for new versions of drivers.

And that's not all, manufacturer may never provide drivers at all for your notebook. Just look at the support pages of Xi 1546/1547, did FSC ever released a Vista driver for these Vista premium ready systems? No.

It might be, that ATI still has Vista mobility drivers somewhere on it's site, just like with XP drivers, to which ATI gives no direct link. If that is the case, and if I'll find the way to obtain links for Vista mobility drivers, I would post them here as well.

shtraue, this is really hard work you are doing. You should be getting paid for this by FSC.

I am really disatisfied with FSC, releasing laptops and not supporting them. Excellent marketing. :-(
