[Scaleo T] Help with installing a spare hard drive

Postby smudge95 » Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:32

Hi
I have a Scaleo T and I am trying to add a spare hard drive with out any success.
I have installed it and fixed the leads to sata2 socket on mother board plus power leads.
On rebooting there nothing showing up and nothing under disk management.
I am assuming something needs to be changed in the bios.
Not being an expert any help welcome.

Does your new hard drive actually running? I.e. can you feel it spinning?
Did you try to connect your default hard drive with new wires (leads), which you are planning to connect the new drive?
Do you have all options "Auto" for SATA?
What do you mean by SATA2? I heard that the specification for the interface is not yet ready. But some manufacturers put this logo when they increase something like speed, etc. So, there probably might be incompatibilities between SATA2 devices...

The new drive is running, I.e. spinning.
On the mother board there is two sockets, one marked sata1 and one sata2 if I plug the default hard drive in either it works.
The new drive will not work in either.
I have tried swoping the leads, get the same results.
In the bios there is
Floppy disabled (there is not one).
Primary ide master – not detected (set at auto detect)
Primary ide slave – not detected (set at auto detect)
That’s it no mention of SATA.

What is your motherboard model and what is model of the new hard drive? Probably, this will give more information.
It looks strange for me that you does not have any SATA options in BIOS. How does it work at all then?

The motherboard is ASUS K8V-F
The hard drive is a Western Digital WD 250GB SATA2/300 7200RPM 16MB.
Also tried a Western Digital WD800 80GB SATA Caviar with same results.

What I found at forum (http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php? ... nextoldest) is: "There are some issues with some of the latest WD Sata drives and the VIA 8237 chipset."
Also I saw that your motherboard supports 150MB/s. So, there could be some problems if 300MB/s drive is not compatible with slower SATA.
