Postby Andrea Collino » Fri May 11, 2018 10:07

Hi,

I try upgrade the RAM on server Primergy Rx100 S6.
The Ram is the follow:

HP 8GB 1X8GB DUAL RANK X4 PC3-10600 DDR-3 ECC RMKT

The Memory optIons for this server is the follow (ds-py-rx100-s6-rh.pdf):

8 GB (1 module(s) 8 GB) DDR3, registered, ECC, 1066 MHz, PC3-8500, DIMM
4 GB (1 module(s) 4 GB) DDR3, unbuffered, ECC, 1333 MHz, PC3-10600, DIMM
4 GB (1 module(s) 4 GB) DDR3, registered, ECC, 1066 MHz, PC3-8500, DIMM
2 GB (1 module(s) 2 GB) DDR3, unbuffered, ECC, 1333 MHz, PC3-10600, DIMM
1 GB (1 module(s) 1 GB) DDR3, unbuffered, ECC, 1333 MHz, PC3-10600, DIMM

The problem is not function. Why?

Thanks in advance

You probably noticed that your module is not mentioned in the supplied list, but anyway...

When you write "upgrade", does that mean you're actually ADDING the module(s) to existing DIMMs, or did you try them alone as well already?

Had a look at the Options Guide, chapter 5 from page 27 onwards, esp. the Population Rules, regarding Quad Rank modules?

Updated BIOS to latest available version 1.19, almost 6 years old nowadays?

Yes but now on server installed these 2 modules (different brand):

2Gb 1Rx8 PC3L - 12800E

These modules not mentioned but function.

'When you write "upgrade", does that mean you're actually ADDING the module(s) to existing DIMMs, or did you try them alone as well already?'

Adding modules

'Had a look at the Options Guide, chapter 5 from page 27 onwards, esp. the Population Rules, regarding Quad Rank modules?'

Yes , I check the Option Guide regarding Quad Rank modules.

'Updated BIOS to latest available version 1.19, almost 6 years old nowadays?'

BIOS updated to latest version.

Thank you

Oh dear, seems I have to use explicit language here :D

Please check the new modules ALONE, i.e. remove the existing DIMMs, insert the new ones, and check to verify whether they work properly in the system, or not.

Fine, but did you understand the text including the implications, and followed the given suggestions when adding the new modules?

I can't determine the exact type of the existing modules from the informational excerpt you provided, so I assume an incompatibility between these and the newly added modules.

To sum it all up: You'd better switch to using FTS memory modules in an FTS server, rather than HP modules. Just my opinion...
