Primergy TX1310 M1 Keeps stopping

Postby rogerbull » Thu Dec 21, 2017 16:45

I have a Primergy TX1310 M1 server running Windows 2012 R2 Essential software. Its been running fine for about 2 years now. Recently, it started abruptly shutting down with out reason. I have tried re-installing the software, but it won't stay up long enough to complete the install. I have also had it shut down on me while I was checking the bios, and also I tried booting it from a live CD , where it also failed. Because of this, I don't believe the issue is software, but is hardware, but I can't keep it running long enough to diagnose the issue. I would appreciate some help, if that is possible?

Given that there is no BMC and thus no ErrorLog, diagnostics will have to be down the hard way.

When you say shuts down - does it just die? Might be faulty power supply or mainboard.
Suggest you strip system down to minimum configuration, and then replace parts until error is resolved.

When the server shuts down, you can hear the hard disks spool down, but the fans etc are still working over the cpu etc. to restart the server, you have to physically remove the mains lead, and then reconnect it, it will not power up on the power button. I can try a minimum config start up, but that will only involve removing the hard disks and the extra memory, that was added 2 years ago. There isn't much more I can remove.

I would start by replacing the mainboard, followed by PSU.
