Pa3553 Black screen, won't POST.

Postby otheos » Fri Aug 17, 2012 22:22

This is now happening for the past week. I press the button, lights come up, fan starts, DVD-Rom spins up, 2 seconds later, the fan stops. The lights stay on, the screen always blank.

Now I can eject the DVD-Rom and switch the camera on and off (Funct-F7) but there is no evidence of the system booting up or actually POSTing.

It can take half an hour, twenty tries before the fan stays on and the system POSTs and boots up.

I will try to see if it is outputing video through HDMI/VGA, although I can tell from the fan that the system doesn't POST.

Anyone with similar issues?

Malfunctioning harddrive perhaps?

Ha!

So after trying all combinations (even a different hard drive) I noticed the problem was persistent and obviously hardware related.
However, when the system DOES boot (eventually after the 10th try) I got a glimpse of a message after the POST screen. It read:

Previous boot not completed. Loading defaults.

So I looked around and asked and it turns out my laptop needs A NEW CMOS Battery.

Apparently the system starts but because the CMOS memory (the BIOS settings) is corrupt (because the CMOS battery cannot keep up) it can read the settings and it fails to POST. After a few attempts it gives up and loads up the defaults.

So I need to replace the CMOS battery. I had a look around and it appears the CMOS battery is located on the other side of the motherboard and it's not accessible from the bottom (RAM/HDD access hatch) and the laptom needs disassembly. The CMOS battery is actually placed an inch bellow the arrow keys as you look the laptop from the top.

So, is there anywhere I can find a disassembly guide, or a sketch or something?

Thanks.

My laptop died.

It is the video chip. I tried everything, didn't work. Then I followed the guide posted here to "refloat" the solder of the mainboard and now my laptop is back. Like NEW!!!

Thanks!!!

Did you took the whole motherboard apart? Or did you use tinfoil?

Had exactly the same problem two days ago, tried few thing and tinfoil heating in the end. And it worked.
But now the computer works for 2-5 minutes and then shuts down.
Is that due to malfunction of cooler or what?
