Li3710 Webcam Unavailable

Postby a_px » Thu Jun 02, 2011 8:12

Hi, I have recently discovered that the "Amilocam" webcam on my laptop is unavailable to applications - e.g. YouCam or Skype. The webcam appears in Device Manager as working correctly & can be turned on or off via Fn-F7. Youcam says "cannot connect to camera" "try closing applications that may be using it etc". I'm not aware of any other applications that could be using the webcam.

This may have happened as a result of plugging in another external webcam. However, that might be a red herring as it's some time since I checked the "Amilocam" was working. Just in case, I tried installing the drivers for the external webcam, then removing it & de-installing the driver. Also tried removing the "Amilocam" in device manager (Listed as USB Camera - can't see any further info on device type/model), rebooting & allowing it to re-install. When I open Skype & look at the webcam config, this causes Skype to crash.

Any ideas on what to try next?

goto driver download web page http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/support/downloads.html
on the right hand side is a software search box type in = Webcam

then go down the list and click on Webcam Test-Tool
download and install and run the test to check the webcam is functional that way
by the way you posted in the ‹ Deutschsprachiges Forum section

Sorry for posting in the wrong section. I installed the webcam test software, but when I run it I get a dialogue box that says "This graph cannot preview!"

video driver is not properly installed or is incompatible with the operating system make sure the version you are running for your video matches the one on the Fujitsu driver download site: uk.ts.fujitsu.com/support

Should be if Vista = Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Version: 7.15.10.1527

or

Windows 7 Intel® - GL40 /GL integrated graphics (Cantiga) Version: 8.15.10.1840

if your not sure then goto DESKUPDATE to auto install all the drivers

System check result: 0 Driver(s), 0 Software, 0 Windows Update(s), 0 BIOS Updates (Duration: 8 Seconds)

Seems to report driver is Ok
Here is the info from the Intel Graphics Control Panel:

Hi, the roll-back option was greyed out so I manually installed the v1840 driver. This doesn't seem to have made any difference. YouCam still reports Cannot Connect. The webcam test tool still says "This Graph cannot preview". I have checked the driver version is definitely reverted to 8.15.10.1840

enter you bios area when you switch on will be F2 or DEL. please then goto the exit menu and choose load bios defaults or load optimised defaults. F10 save changes and exit.

goto http://free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm
install the codec pack

make sure no other webcam s.w is running. turn on your webcam via fn key - USe the webcam test tool (not youcam) while testing this

1.Click Start , type Device Manager , and select Device Manager from the list provided.
2.Double-click Imaging Devices to expand the list - what is listed there?

take the tick out of load startup items
Click startup tab - check down the list for anything webcam related tick it if you find anything (or if theres some of that usb one you put in which shouldnt be there dont tick)
Click ok - ok to reboot -> use the Fn key to activate webcam and then webcam test tool to test.

Running out of ideas

No luck I'm afraid. Did all that. Windows starts up with no startup apps. Same result on Webcam Test - also tried Youcam, no difference.....

wipe and re-install see if the flat os and drivers all ok before any other s.w installed could be s.w fail rather than hardware as its moaning about an app using it

Will need to think about that - it's a bit drastic! I might just live with no webcam for a while. Also this laptop came with no disks for re-install. Is there somewhere I can download a re-image disk from Fujitsu?

This machine is dual-boot with Linux on one partition. I have never tried the webcam on Linux but had a look now & noticed there is no /dev/video* device listed, which is where I would expect to see a USB camera. Tried installing an application called "cheese" (similar to Youcam for Linux), doesn't find any video devices. Starting to think it may be hardware now.....

Thanks for your help - I realise it's an awkward one

yea it is drastic but theres loads with this problem when you google and no one has a fix
the only way you will know its hardware is if you wipe and re-install. But for a cam if your mc is ok i wouldnt bother.
this is the only place where media is obtainable https://ts.fujitsu.com/sw-shop/ if it shipped with w7
