Mother board ASUS M2R-FVM and PCI-E version 2 garphic cards

Postby nonob » Tue Dec 28, 2010 12:34

Hi,

I rode here

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... =firefox-a

that this mother board, with its PCI-E version 1 slot, isn't compatible with PCI-E v2 graphics cards.

"Q: Why does my Nvidia GeForce 6610XL works fine on my Asus M2R-FVM but with my GeForce 8600GT or Radeon HD3650 i get a black screen on start up?
A: Because the PCI-Express version of this Motherboard is 1.0 and version 2.0 and 1.1 PCI-Express VGA cards are not comaptible with PCI-Express version 1.0"

Is it right ?

Thanks

PCI Express 2.0 is backwards compatible however Your slot is the early version and will NOT work.

Thats rubbish. I also had an 8600 on this board and worked perfect! Now I have 4850 ATI and never a problem.

Its like voltage differences im more concerned about .....sure you could try different voltage memory too , it may work, but for how long

m2r-fvm has RS485 Radeon Xpress 1150 chip which supports PCI-Express x16 v1.0a .
