Problem when switching on Amilo Li 2727

Postby colbhoy » Thu Dec 02, 2010 22:03

When I turn on my daughter's lap=top, I am getting a black screen with the following message:

"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realtek RTL8101E 10/100 PCI-Express Ethernet Adapter v1.03 (070618)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
Operating System not found"

I can't do anything with it and taking battery out and re-starting makes not difference

Any ideas please?

Hard disk failure.
It skips over then goes PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable - this is trying to then boot from lan which fails and messages "no os found"

the current size hard drives you can have on this unit are:
Storage devices / drives
HDD:
120, 160, 250 or 320 GB SATA (5400 rpm) hard disk

Thanks Sabrex for your response.

What can I do to fix it, is it a case of just taking it somewhere to be repaired?

well the hard disk should be easy to replace the compartment is likely underneath (2 screws or 1 to release) hdd slides out put new one in. rough 25.00 for hard disk. Maybe get it confirmed it is def hard disk by running the diagnostic tool fujitsu has on their website here:

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/Showdescription.asp?ID=1052708&Lng=en

Ill look into how to replace the hdd and give you some instruction

remove power
remove battary
Remove the two screws on the hard disk cover, then remove the hard disk cover.

Pull the HDD module out by pulling on the mylar attached to it, gently slide-out the HDD module from its bay.
Reverse instruction

always use anti static precautions when handling componants.

Many thanks Sabrex, I'll try that.
