P1500 Firewire under Windows 7

Postby delboy » Tue Feb 02, 2010 22:09

I am looking to replace my ageing Scaleo P with a P1500.
My main activity is photo and video editing so I need a Firewire connection to transfer video from my (non-HD) camcorder.
My Scaleo P has this as standard but the P1500 apparently does not, although it has an HDMI connector.
This is a glaring omission by Fujitsu in what is otherwise a very well specified machine.
Not everyone has (or wants) an HD camcorder.
Obviously I can fit a Firewire PCI card, but why hasn't Fujitsu done this?
None of the PCI cards for sale on the web list Windows 7 as a compatible operating system.
I have also checked with Belkin product support who are non-commital on the subject.
I have seen numerous reports of people having problems getting Firewire to work with Windows 7. Is this the reason?
Does anyone have any experience of using Firewire with Windows 7 on a P1500?

Finally gave up on this and bought an HP Elite series PC.
Beautiful machine, runs like a dream, all the connectivity you could wish for (including 2 Firewire).
Byebye Fujitsu!
