[P2510] D2480 Motherboard possible CPU upgrades

Postby falsit » Fri Oct 02, 2009 14:38

Hi,

I've currently got an Esprimo P2510 with the standard 3.2GHz Celeron in it. I would ideally like to get a Core 2 Duo processor into it as it's now become a make-shift server, but am unsure as to what the motherboard, a D2480, can accept.
The current information on the Fujitsu website doesn't include this motherboard. I have also found the CPU compatability chart, which despite inclucing several LGA775 motherboards, again, the D2480 is missing.
If anyone can find a list of fully supported processors that would be great, or any individual reports of upgrading your processor would be much appreciated,

thanks,

Chris

Hi,

please have a look into the data sheet:

Thanks for the information posted above, it was more than I had found, but seems to be a list of processors supported only at the time of release. At this point, none of these processors would offer a significant performance increase IMO.
Reading the information available in the latest version of the BIOS update I did however find this snippet of information;

07.12.2006
BIOS - Change V6.00 Release R1.04.2480.A1
====================================================
- Optimize Cache Initialization for Conroe CPU.
- Added new Microcode Patches for Conroe CPU.
- Added new Video BIOS version.

So a quick check on Wikipedia for the actual processors that the codename 'Conroe' actually refers to gave;

Conroe and Allendale Core 2 Duo
E4xxx 2 2 MB
E6xx0 2-4 MB
LGA 775 65 W

Perfect; 1 BIOS update later and £60 on eBay for a Core 2 Duo E6600 and we're in business. Almost.

It would appear that the BIOS update doesn't really support this processor, as it complains about a lack of microcode patch code for the processor. Pressing F1 continues past this screen, the OS (Server2003) boots successfully and identifies the processor and cores correctly. I've been running the server in production for a few days now with no issues, though I can't recommend this upgrade path to anyone else in a professional environment...

Thanks again for the input into this thread, and I hope this is of interest to the people who have viewed it.
