Graphics card compatibility?

Postby OUTATIME » Fri Feb 27, 2009 17:00

Will the Scaleo E accept *any* PCI graphics card with a low profile bracket, or iss it more specific than that?

Thank you,

Nate.

Must be Pci Express (X16) NOT Pci Express II

Im going for a Nvidia 8400 GS with 512MB Ram :)

THis should help ALOT, the Orig card doesnt support HDCP or specific screen sizes, the card goes for around 35-£40 so wont break the bank and will make the Saleo E last even longer :)

It's the same thing for the EVi then, ONLY PCI-E x 16, not PCI-E 2?
Always thought PCI-E 2 was backwards compatible.

If i put in an 8400 GS in my Scaleo E will the SCART out still work?
I presume i need to attach a header for the TV out onto the card?

Nope the scart out will NOT work, its feed from the riser card and you have to remove the riser card to use the Pci Express slot

Hi Giz

Many thanks for your help on the Keyboard problems. Which make 8400 GS card are you going for? I have been looking at the Sapphire 11125-02-21R Radeon HD 3450 256MB LP PCI E 2.0 Graphics Card as it has HDMI, S VHS and VGA, from what you have said this will not work so will I have to think again?

Also I was interested in what you said about the TV Scart output, does this not work at all or must it go through a graphics card?

Cheers Keith

GIZ,

What do you mean about removing the riser card?

My riser card has a wireless card and TV tuner in it, does this mean I wont be able to use these any more if I buy a new graphics card?

Will a PCI graphics card work in any of the free PCI ports or does it need a specific one?

Thanks again,

Nate.

Also, will a new graphics card give me more screen resolutions?

My LCD TV has a native resolution of 1366x720 but I can't currently access that setting.

I mean the graphics card, i call it a riser card as it just brings up the ports as the graphics card is on the motherboard :)

The card i got today (as descrided above :))

Nvidia control panel allows you to totally change your screen setup, size pixels refresh rate ....

Get it bought

Who needs scart these days :)

Exactly... using VGA now, may switch to HDMI when new card is installed.
So I wont have to lose anything, the new card can just take an empty space?
thanks for the advice, Giz.

Hi Guys,
I installed a Gigabyte HD 4350 512MB GDDR2 graphics card in my Scaleo E. It is a low profile card with a half height plate included in the box. This card has VGA, DVI and HDMI output as standard. The VGA connector will have to be unplugged when using the half height plate. Installation is nice and straightforward and it works a treat. you can also use these cards (XFX Geforce 9400gt or ATI Radeon HD4550) Both are low profile but HD4550 allows playback of blue-ray dvd,s. but you will need a blue-ray drive installed...
