I think, if you search the forum, other people have bee told to contact the service desk.

They will need your serial number.
Use anti virus, backup your data, use google.
POST BACK EVEN IF THE HELP DOESN'T HELP.

A Thank You would be nice if I have helped.

Thanks bubblegum but I was hoping perhaps it was a common fault and someone who had experienced it could advise me.

Don't like the idea of hanging on the telephone at 60p/min, maybe be the only solution in the end though.

Ok, what can be wrong? Probably hardware, try a hard disk test utility, & try memtest86. Then there is only the motherboard. If its the motherboard. Could you repair it?

The error message was reported after running Fujitsus' own HDD test software, unfortunately they don't provide a help file or a key to the error codes. Probably pointless running non proprietary software, I don't know though.

I would n't attempt to fix a MOBO issue unless it was simply replacing one part with another like for example adding memory.

i would still try the hard disk & memory tests.

As yo0u know replacing a hard disk or ram is fairly easy.

Cool, I'll have look for memtest86.

Can you recommend a hard disk test utility?

Also my DVD/CD drive does n't work with either DVD or CD whether it be audio or a data/software disk. After loading the disk the light illuminates and it makes clunking/clicking noises for a few seconds then goes dead. The disk is n't recognised in "D" drive so I'm unable to start it manually. I've been through the windows troubleshooter to no avail. I've designated it as the first boot device in the bios but still no worky. I was wondering if there is a test utlilty for these drives?

The ubcd http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ has memtest86 & hard disk tools. It depends on the hard drive manufacturer as to what you need. But ubcd has several tests.

You need to burn it as an iso file. & your laptop needs to boot from cd.

Thanks that looks a very useful tool but as stated above my CD drive is not functioning, have downloaded memtest86. Could only d/l the penultimate version though, will give that a run out for starters and report back.

Laptop kept switching it's self off today, something to do with a heat sensor not recognising settings. Cure is to updated the bios with the latest version which I think I've "flashed" succssessfully, been using it enough for it to get pretty hot and it's stayed on, fingers crossed etc.
