[Xi 3650] - HDMI port not working?

Postby MattBW » Mon Dec 29, 2008 15:59

I have not had my new notebook long and was hoping that the HDMI port would be easy to use with my 37" LCD. It is pretty much straight from the box, I havent done anything other than carry out a Windows Update and put security software on.

Unfortunately plugging an HDMI cable in seems to have little to no effect, the TV reports no signal (but reports nothing when no cable is in). I have tried all sorts to activate it but cant even find a reference to a HDMI port anywhere in the Control Panel. Activating external displays does nothing either.

Am I missing something due to inexperience with Vista or is something wrong with the machine?

I have ZERO PC skills but I always remember having to mess with the properties section and multiple monitors to get my laptop to go through the TV (before HDMI was invented!) have you tried that? Let me know how you get on, as I'm getting one next week!!!!

:D

Yeah I looked there or there abouts and no visible options.

I have also tried the TV wizard only problem is there is no HDMI option in manual setup and it detects no TV connected on auto.

Either drivers or hardware I wager.

Try going to "Control Panel-Realtek HD audio manager-Hdmi output and select "set default device.
Don't have a hdmi monitor to try with but maybe that would help or if it's only for sound I dunno

HDMI works only when you engage/switch on graphic card.

Thanks everyone, just to confirm its now solved.

For some reason when I was pushing the performance button (little running man light) the improved performance profile wasnt changing the graphics settings from power saving.

Once I set it to improved graphics performance the HDMI worked fine, and it switches back and forth with no problems .

Hi

Could somone help with same problem please.

For the life of me i can't get my laptop to output to my tv through the hdmi connection.

I have set hdmi to default as recommended above and turned laptop to full power.

When i look at the 2nd screen in properties, it only gives the option of 800x600.

Please help.

Thanks.

First restart! When you'll enable nVidia graphic card then go to nVidia settings (left click on desktop) and there you'll find all you need to adjust. But before you want to do that first after enabling graphic card push Fn + F10. First push will give you picture only on HDMI second push will show pic on both. Than do the described before.

Hope it will work.

I may be missing something (likely) but how do I turn on the graphics card? Is it just the running man...?

in system tray you can see the nVidia logo (one or two green boomerangs). If there is one even after you press running man than you have to enable "power mode" manually. Just click on that logo and you'll see.
