[Esprimo V5505] High Pitched Whine

Postby tauren » Thu Apr 24, 2008 15:25

Hi, i've just purchased a new Esprimo V5505 laptop two days ago, and i have noticed a high pitched whining noise coming from inside the laptop somewhere. I'm not sure what could be causing it. Its quite annoying when sat in a quiet environment as all i can hear is this noise as it is constant, i can even hear it over the fans (which are fairly quiet) I would appreciate some help if anyone has got any ideas? :(

Thanks all.

I have the same model and noticed this too. I put it down to the hard drive or some 'electrical buzz' due to the processor/memory

ah you have the exact same model and spec as me. i have done some reading, apparently it can be down to the CPU going into low power state called "C4" it is possible to stop it with a program called RM clock i believe. but im not sure i really want to use that program as it is intended for overclocking? :?

This problem is due to the piezoelectric effect when the processor scales to its lowest power saving mode; it's more of a problem with intel than fujitsu-siemens, really. You can use the RMclock .exe file (http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml) to solve the problem. Do NOT disable C4, as this fixes the problem temporarily but currently causes system freezes in the majority of cases. Search on the RM clock forum for how to 'disable popup mode' - that should stop the noise at a small cost to battery life.
