Amilo Pi 2550 USB boot

Postby Brums » Fri Jan 01, 2021 22:08

Hi all,

I have an Amilo Pi 2550 (Fujitsu Siemens) that I would like to install Windows XP on (so I can run an old program), but can't find any way to do this.

HDD has been completely formatted, even the factory default recovery partition. I tried to install Win XP via USB (rufus and WinToUsb) but the key is not recognized, cannot boot with it. (An operating system wasn't found...)
(By the way the DVD player is dead.)

I set a correct boot order in the bios, tried the different USB ports. It seems that this is due to the impossibility of configuring UEFI in the bios (v1.12), there is only few settings in the bios.

I tried also brutal method consisting of placing the HDD on another notebook, installing it on this pc (with the Sata drivers) and then replacing it in the original pc. In vain, (apparently) because of the missing HDD drivers. When it loads Windows it displays a BSOD: STOP 0x0000007 (0xF78A2A94, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

Then, I thought of creating a partition with the installation files of Windows XP but with XP it looks particularly complicated given the lack of boot.wim file for XP ...

Is there a simpler way?
Would there be a way to unlock the bios to inactivate the legacy?

Thank you in advance!

Dear Brums

This device has reached EOL status in 2011.

Amilo Pi 2250 was released with Windows Vista, therefore, Windows XP was not supported on this device and no drivers for XP are available on Fujitsu support page.

Best regards,

Thank you for your answer.
I tried as well to install WIndows 7 though USB, in vain.
Why is it not possible then?

Just a thought:
Ever thought about trying to get your hands on an external USB-attached DVD drive?
You can get them cheap these days (around 20$), and given the note that the internal drive does not work anymore, this might help.
Those old BIOSses might not work well with specially prepared USB sticks (HD-style/partitioned and so on).
I don't own an Amilo Pi myself, but my old buddy Scaleo Pi2662 with Q6600 processor is similarly aged, and just received the Win10 2009 update.

I hope that this post does not get deleted without notification like another one I devised recently...

Thank you for your answer, even if most of my hopes are gone.

I forgot to mention, I tried with an USB DVD drive, it is not even recognized in the boot selection panel (F12).
