Postby storm777 » Wed Mar 09, 2022 17:10

Hi,

My E746 laptop is hard bricked after I try to install EC Firmware Update.

https://support.ts.fujitsu.com/IndexDow ... 1D755FDA5A

Laptop is all dead, non of small LEDs are blinking

What should I do to make it run? Before installation all work good.

I tried to remove BIOS battery but that didn't help, please help me.

Best regards

Hello,

You may try with a different AC adapter; however, according to your description your motherboard may require replacement.

Thank you,

That didn't work.

How is posible that you provide faulty sofware that can break whole laptop?

You should take responsibility and replace motherboard on my laptop for free, because I didn't do anything wrong.

I’ve had the same issue with my U745. It’s been completely destroyed by the battery firmware update. £45 for Fujitsu to give me a quote for a repair then parts and labour on top of that. Really nice laptop is now effectively scrap. I wouldn’t risk the battery safety update again.

This "Battery Control Update" is a really unfortunate situation. I work IT for a company and in my fleet I have about 20 Fujitsu laptops. All of the units are trying to do the update. It has come via windows update. Even though I have automatic updates disabled I have "keener" employees who do the updates without telling me. Which normally would be fine. But this battery update will Brick the laptop. I now have 4 of these units which will never see the light of day again. It is not a battery removal with special button presses. The BIOS is toast and will not boot again. Some power on but just no sign of life on the monitor. Some never power on again. Which is very alarming.

Fujitsu Please remove this from being an automatic update. As well meaning as it might have been it causing major issues. Or at the very least put an option in to "never ask again" so I don't have to worry about my employee's installing it. As soon as you delete the source files for the update program it re-appears in the windows update options to download all over again.

Hello,
unfortunately I met the same fate, I got my hands on several pieces of basically new E754, the first two laptops PMU battery firmware update survived, the other two died during the update - no indication of power, does not respond to anything, the board is completely dead, this is absolutely scandalous and a shame Fujitsu / Microsoft.

On my other laptops it keeps showing me to update PMU/EC, this can be paused but by reinstalling/restore the system it will come up again and users will quite possibly install and this will lead to other devices being destroyed.

What solution does Fujitsu suggest? Fujitsu distributing FW, that definetly lead to destroy Customer devices!

There was another tread about this, 49200, but they appear to have deleted it.

I keep hoping that Fujitsu will take a stand on this, after all this is no small thing but very serious damage to someone else's property. If worst comes to worst, I have already ordered an eeprom reader and will try to reflash the EC chip.

If you manage to find a similar thread, please share it here, if you have a link to a deleted thread, it might be found on web.archive.org.

Have you any information or instructions for re-flashing the EC chip? I'd also like to give it a try. I'll have a go at finding the other thread.

I will follow the best methods, i.e. according to the specific type of motherboard I will find the binaries (I have already seen that they are available in several versions), and load them into the EC memory using the ch341a programmer.

I'll be happy to share specific instructions in a couple of weeks, depending on how the situation develops and the programmer itself arrives.

Hello :)
Thank you for contacting Fujitsu.

Could you please re-check issue with following steps:

1. remove ac adapter cable from the notebook
2. remove the main battery pack
3. press the power button for 4-5 seconds
4. insert the battery
5. connect the ac adapter cable
6. try to switch on the system

Only for single cases/systems which can’t be switched on or will not boot after using the „Battery Charging Control Utility”, unfortunately, there is no way to revive the system without replacing the mainboard. Since the system is EOL, Spares no longer stocks any spare parts.

Hope this information helps.

Yes, tried that may times to no avail. Going to try changing the MC chip. Just of interest, do you have a link to a download of the firmware for it?

Pay attention to the motherboard version and check the chip version to be sure.
