Lifebook P770 - Howling Sound after boot at windows logon screen

Postby fahlis64 » Sat Jul 17, 2021 13:31

Hello

After booting up Lifebook P770, at windows logon screen it gives a loud howling sound.
The sound can be heard in below shared file.
https://we.tl/t-xI7Ds92Zl6
This issue only arises when the laptop has booted up to logon screen. Not at POST or after entering BIOS.
From what I can tell the CPU does not get hot.
Surely this must be a hardware problem but which hardware I wonder.
Anyone who knows and have a solution?
FYI the laptop has an SSD

Hello Tony :)

Are there any errors shown during POST?
How does the system behave after boot? Does the sound stop after a while? Does the system works normally or does it freeze after some time?

Thank you,

Hi!

No errors shown during POST
The sound continued for at least 3mins, then I needed to stop or else the neighbours would have called the fire brigade :D
I noticed a message regarding "Battery condition deteriorated" and Missing Fujitsu FUJ02E3 Driver...
See attached snapshot.
Is it possible to surpress the sound alert in BIOS or something so I at least can troubleshoot for a while ?
Perhaps it's worth trying to reinstall Win10 altogether?

Tony:

Can you:
- Please check if the issue will also occur with Linux distribution (Ubuntu/Knopixx) installed on this machine?
- Did it also happen if the original Windows 7 was installed? If possible try to recover from the recovery partition.
- Does it also occur when Windows is booted from USB created with an image from Microsoft Media creation tool?
- As the battery is old and deteriorated please check if the issue will occur when the battery is disconnected, or if possible with a different battery.

Thank you,

Hi!

Thanks for your suggestions.
Answers indent below.

Can you:
- Please check if the issue will also occur with Linux distribution (Ubuntu/Knopixx) installed on this machine?
- Not easily as I only have one SSD, will try reinstall if required.
- Did it also happen if the original Windows 7 was installed? If possible try to recover from the recovery partition.
- No, The update to Win10 was done several years back.
I should add that the laptop was shutdown after a long time online due to a apartement move. This issue occured at first startup after that.
- Does it also occur when Windows is booted from USB created with an image from Microsoft Media creation tool?
- I will try that.
- As the battery is old and deteriorated please check if the issue will occur when the battery is disconnected, or if possible with a different battery.
- Already tried that, and it's the same.

The SSD drive in the laptop is rather old, so perhaps I should buy a new SSD and reinstall Win10 instead ?
As the issue is only seen after Windows has booted up , to me it looks like Windows is involved...could it be the battery monitoring application that does this ?

Hi!

I reinstalled Win10 with the option "keep personal files"
Now the issue is gone :D

It would be very interesting to know the reason for the howling sound.
I guess that's no easy answer.
I'm just happy it worked.
An old but still a very nice laptop.
Thanks for your input.
