A555 HD Display upgrade to A555/G Full HD

Postby PauleW » Mon Mar 15, 2021 20:53

Hi all,

the display on my A555 (HD resolution 1366x768) is broken. I am thinking of replacing the whole thing, but preferably with a Full HD display. This was originaly not available for the A555, but for the A555/G, which has additionally a Radeon card installed. (As with the A556/G. From the A557 onwards, the Full HD Display is also available for the Intel only HD Graphics).
Has anyone ever done this conversion for the A555 or A556? The eDP cable seems to be the same (30 pin with webcam connection). The display covers etc. are also the same part numbers, so it fits. The BIOS files of the A555 and the A555/G have different MD5 sums. However, they are the same BIOS versions from the same day, so it could also be the code for the Radeon, but I have not compared the files. Is there a whitelist/blacklist in the firmware that only allows certain displays on the eDP cable?

Kind regards
Paul

Hello :)

The LIFEBOOK A555 was delivered with two different Mainboards (LVDS and eDP) and it is released with the HD Display only.

If the customer builds in the FHD Display from another model, then he does it at his own risk.
We do not guarantee that it is working because it is not tested.

Best regards,

The topic is old, but the info might be useful for someone else.

First of all, the type of display must be determined - LVDS or eDP.
There are plenty of youtube videos how to open the display, or if you are not patient enough, check this photo instruction how to identify and replace the screen. After identifying the screen model, check it in a specialized site like Panelook or the one with replace tutorial, if it is with 30-pin eDP interface like LP156WH3(TP)(A1), or 40-pin LVDS interface like LP156WH3(TL)(A1).
If your original screen is LVDS, upgrade is not possible.
If your original screen is eDP, upgrade to Full HD is possible. Full HD IPS is recommended. recommended.
