Laptop Keyboard "m" causes hardware crash

Postby ralphm » Sat Aug 22, 2020 3:24

I have a Lifebook A Series. Recently it started giving random crashes whenever I was typing input in a variety of applications (Win 10 64 bit).

I have now narrowed it down. Pressing the "m" key crashes the system - straight to a dead screen and automatic reboot. Nothing worthwhile in the event logs. All I get is the recovery message that says "This system crashed without warning - no info"

While the system is rebooting in BIOS or Windows starting up, if I press the "m" key it instantly crashes again, so hardware fault of some kind seems likely.
Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions anyone?
Many thanks in advance.

PS. I don't know what hardware is underneath the "m" key. I guess it could be that as much as the keyboard itself.

Thanks. I have done a system scan. How can I send this to you please?

Also - further info.
The problem is spreading out on the keyboard. Hard tapping on "n,j,k & ," also crash the machine now.

We were infordmed that the Serial number of the device is still missing.

Please create a Systemscan report file (HTM format) for the system and attach it to the PID.

waiting for that action.

Hello Ralph,

After receiving the documents, unfortunately we were informed that the device is out of warranty, and also Lifebook A556 has reached End Of Service Life on 31.03.2020. Therefore access to spare parts is limited.

Described symptomps indicate to faulty keyboard.
