Esprimo V5535-12 corrupting data or HDD capacity problem?

Postby Miki01 » Sun Dec 18, 2011 22:52

Hello,
I have a problem with my Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile V5535-12, Serial No’ YKDA680142, the problem and my repair attempts are described in 3 following steps:

Step 1
The original Fujitsu 160GB Hard Disk failed. Its failure had been verified and confirmed by checking the disk in another PC.

Step 2
A brand new Western Digital 320GB SATA had been purchased and installed in the Esprimo Mobile.
It didn’t work well, a lot of start-up problems. Running the Fujitsu dedicated Diagnostic Tool downloaded from Fujitsu website came out with DIFS Code 75WK-YAMZ-00SEW, which had been identified as a Hard Disk failure by this forum and by Technical Support as well.
All that’s despite the fact that this WD 320GB disk had been extensively checked under its warranty and no failure found, and now it works well in another PC (Lenovo).

Step 3
So I addressed the problem to possible compatibility issue, and replaced the Hard Disk by another one – Toshiba 500GB SATA.
Now the Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool indicates “No Problems Found”, both quick test and full test, all are clean.
The original Vista OS and original drivers had been loaded and the beginning was good. During Vista installation and HDD formatting the PC recognizes the full disc capacity - about 497GB.
But the PC started slowly-slowly to corrupt the system files and collect these corruptions. Hang-ups began, after a few days - error messages, and after 2 weeks the system doesn’t start-up at all - it goes to "Safe Mode" selection screen and selecting any mode falls out to start-up or hangs-up.
The Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool still runs clean and finds no errors.

The BIOS had been updated to a last version, V1.13, but it didn’t help.

1) Is there any problem to use Hard Disks of such large capacity as 500GB and 320GB in Esprimo Mobile? I see other folks with HDD capacity problems also on this forum.
2) Any BIOS settings can help? There are a lot of options.
3) Any advice what to do now?

Hi
The following hard drives have been tested to work on the machine and corresponding part numbers:

On the basis your WD 320 was tried and works in another machine may indicate a board controller problem.
you may have problems if in the Bios the AHCI is enabled and you are installing XP.

I had a similar problem with 640gb samsung. There is a problem with controller in SATA300 with some HDDs. Solved it by switching to SATA150 mode. It can be done by a switch on a hard drive depending on a manufacturer.
Check your SMART first (with Everest for example).

I have 15 laptops this model in mentenance; I also had similar problems.
I want to confirm that laptop is NOT working with these drives:
- Western Digital 320GB 5400 8M - WD3200BPVT-22JJ5T0 - Explorer did not respond on first login screen after fresh windows 7 install
- Seagate XT hibrid 320GB 7200 - ST93205620AS - comunication errors and a bunch of blue screens on Windows 7

Also drives are working perfectly in other computers.

Westerns 2.5" do not have jumpers to force the sata-150 mode.

Fujitsu should release a bios update if tihs is posibble; anyway this Sis chipset has compatibility issues.

Also I would like to mention that this series of laptops is very bad manufactured (although there are "made in germany");
the screws are made of aluminium and I have many many problems with it when I was removing parts for cleaning or upgrade memory; many times they have stock and bend.

One unit have died without any chance of repairing; the motherboard refuse to start anymore; and it was not very used.

Hello guys,

What is the maximum size (and model) of hdd which is correctly working with v5535?

I saw the post wrote by sarbex and there is hdd WD3200BEVT(320GB) but I'm looking for 500gb hdd. Do you know something about WD5000BEVT? Is it working with v5535? If you know any working drive (500gb) please write it here.

Thanks for your respond.
