Postby rjd123 » Tue Sep 07, 2010 15:17

Hi,
I have a v5535 that freezes on start up(inc safe mode) since it got knocked a few days ago.I can't get close to logging on and am at a loss of how to resolve this issue.Any advice would be welcome, though i am not that technically gifted i'm afraid.

Its possible since the unit took a knock the hard drive (where your data is stored) has been damaged. Its best to run the system diagnostic tool on your unit.

http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/support/downloads.html in the right hand columb type diagnostics dos
It should find the system diagnostics tool, download this and read the instructions enclosed o how to burn the ISO to CD.

(use http://www.freeisoburner.com/ or active iso burner http://download.cnet.com/Active-ISO-Burner/3000-2646_4-10602452.html

You will need to write this cd obviously on another machine that a)is working  and B) has internet access

I ran the test and it came up media test failure check cable, disconnected the hard drive blew away any dust around connections and re-connected but no improvement. Also noted it freezes at the same place every time, don't know if that's relevant so any further help would be appreciated.

load bios - F2 or delete key when you power on. under option for main it should list your hard disk and your cdrom drive under sata 0 / sata 1 / sata 2
If its not seeing hdd in the bios then im afraid your hdd is down. was hopeing you could run a FULL TEST and confirm it.

Loaded bios and under main it does show hdd and cd-rom/dvd-rom drive but it freezes on that page as well sometimes. It appears i can't get anywhere without it freezing up,it's getting very frustrating.

well it should never freeze in the bios so it looks like it could be heat or board related. Not hdd.
hows the cooling on the unit?
any fan noise?
always used on a flat surface ?
Plenty of airflow underneath?
In the bios area how long before the freeze occurs ?
What Bios version are you running ? this is in the bios area ..... (latest is Version: 1.13 but check - not recommended to run as a freeze during a bios update renders your board useless)
Have you added any 3rd party RAM >?

please do this next :
Remove the hard disk again from the machine and power up into bios without it attached to see if it freezes.

hang in there and we will at least narrow it down  so far we now know its not software (elliminated by bios freeze) hard drive although seen in bios can still stop a boot/freeze up machine so removing it elliminates it from the equation. Heat build up due to the fan being dusty can cause componants to get hot and stop working.
Overheats the board would just turn off the machine and this isnt happeneing so we dont think its an overheat.

Removed hard disk got into bios( F2) and still froze after a few seconds, fan working ok and not added any extra RAM

When i turn on laptop without the hard disk and press nothing i get a black page displaying
SiS191 PXE BootROM v1.3 Use BEV/BBS
PXE-E61: Media test failure,check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting SiS191 PXE BootROM.

As far as diagnosing goes its as far as you can go. Manufacturer still offer out of warranty repair and can inform repair center to collect and quote so if you call them they can give you collection / inspection costs that the repair center charge or you may have a local pc repairer / laptop repairer near you.
