v5535 sata controller driver - vista

Postby sandanser » Tue Aug 04, 2009 22:52

I need to re-install VISTA on a v5535 and have got the system disks but VISTS won't find the HDD controller upon installation so I'm guessing it's the usual issue of SATA controller? I've got an exterrnal floppy drive for use in these installations and have d/l the 411a driver but can't seem to get it onto disk or for VISTA to read it?
Can anybody suggest anything or point me in the right direction please?

I've got the system disks with this laptop and still vista doesn't find the HHD controller despite it being enabled in BIOS?

If you do not see the HDD when it comes to the screen asking where to install Windows then either the PRCD is not the one supplied for this machine or the HDD has failed.

Can you see the HDD in BIOS? (Keep tapping F2 when you turn it on)

If the Install CD is not the one supplied for this machine you can add drivers to it using vLite (http://www.vlite.net/) but in all honesty I think a standard Vista install DVD has the drivers for the HDD controller in this machine anyway (I may be wrong on this).

Thanks for taking the time to reply Steven :) yest the HDD is there in the BIOS. I've formatted the HDD in case of corruption and also ran a repair on it too. There's two system disks with the v5535 and one is the driver disk but it doesn't have the SATA/RAID driver on it? I've tried another HDD in and get the same message when VISTA loads "this computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the comuters BIOS menu" which it is!
The closest on the CD is the M672 embedded VGA driver but that doesn't work either (was hoping the chipset driver was included). I've just enabled 32 bit I/O in the BIOS under the HDD options but that hasn't solved it so it looks to me that I need a RAID driver?

I've just tried to install XP Home & it picked up the HDD but upon rebooting after copying files the installation started again & keeps doing this so maybe there's not a driver issue but maybe the board :(

That may be the case.

There are no chipset or SATA drivers on the FTS downloads page for this machine, which would usually say that a standard Vista / XP CD contains drivers for the chipset.

The southbridge on this machine is SiS 968 and any SiS drivers can be downloaded direct: -

Does the Diagnostic CD give any fault codes from a full test: -

I have v5535.
There is no SATA controler in this laptop .
Under XP in control panel , it shows me only IDE ATA and works perfect without any special drivers (vista also).
Maybe you makes mistake druning XP instalation.
If you have still problem then write me down.

Thanks Birke, I really appreciate your input, at least I can look elsewhere now.
I was guessing that there's no sata/raid driver required as I would've found one by now. There's no 2nd HDD involved and I've formatted the HDD so VISTA should go straight onto it but there's something stopping it so I'm guessing it may be the MB ? M$ say the error is due to the BIOS seeing two HDD's in so halts on installation or something?

The SATA controller is part of the southbridge (SiS 968);
http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupp ... _v5535.pdf and http://www.sis.com/products/sis968.htm

All the Esprimo Mobile Laptops use SATA HDD's so there must be a SATA controller (You can see the HDD's for this machine in the datasheet). The IDE is used for the CD / DVD drive.

But you are right he should not need any extra driver. It sounds like the controller is gone.

it turns out that the HDD had been disabled in the BIOS prior to me getting the laptop to repair by some muppet  all I had to do was re-enable it and I'm only posting in case anyone else overlooks this.
thanks for all the help guys

Have you tried to deactivate the AHCI from BIOS? It's usually found at the Advanced tab.
