Full reinstallation disk for Vista

Postby poppy » Sat Apr 11, 2009 19:27

Have purchased an Esprimo Mobile V5535 running Vista Home Basic today. All working well and no problems. However, I intend to shrink the single partition and install Kubuntu on the empty part, thereby retaining the option to revert to Vista if I wish.
I have the recovery DVD but would like to know why Fujitsu don't provide the full DVD in order to reinstall Vista from scratch? Is it possible to obtain one and if so, at what cost? I would like to know just in case I run into problems.
Thanking you in advance.

Why dont you download a full Vista + SP1 directly from microsoft and install the cert and the OEM SLP key for the version of Vista you've installed.
Since your mobo came with Vista preinstalled it means that your bios has SLIC table, which gives you the option to install any Vista version...e.g. Home, Ultimate...e.t.c.
You can get the cert from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/127859049/F ... 024.XRM-MS

And use one of this keys:
26VQB-RP3T9-63FVV-VD7RF-H7M2Q Vista Starter Edition
48382-QY4WK-2JJ3Q-RV8P3-T9WVM Vista Home Basic
22TC9-RDMDD-VXMXD-2XM2Y-DT6FX Vista Home BasicN
4HVQB-W34KM-WRM6D-3RPXT-2V7GR Vista Home Premium
4C3CM-H3RXM-VBMVQ-K8RHX-RTFX8 Vista Business
2434H-HFRM7-BHGD4-W9TTD-RJVCH Vista BusinessN
2QBP3-289MF-9364X-37XGX-24W6P Vista Ultimate

Install the cert like this:
1. Copy the cert (FUJITSU_SIEMENS_COMPUTERS_GMBH-100024.XRM-MS) to c:\
2. Open CMD ( Command Prompt ) and type the folowing comand.
3. slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\FUJITSU_SIEMENS_COMPUTERS_GMBH-100024.XRM-MS (the name may difer, but the licence is the same)

Install the key like this:
slmgr.vbs -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

BTW. Do not enter any key during the install process.
And you can get hold of the cert from your own pc.
It is located at C:\Windows\System32\OEM

Thank you pecko88 for your helpful reply. I am rather an amateur at this sort of thing so need to look at things carefully.
Have telephoned support today and a very helpful young man said that the recovery disk that I have will do a complete reformat of the drive so this is all I wanted to know really.
The laptop is a regraded one from Laptops Direct and whoever installed Vista Basic on it left the old OS on - there is an Old Windows file on the C drive so I thought that I would really like to start afresh.
According to what I read prior to purchase the Esprimos come with Business Edition so I assume that this is what has been left on it.

Did you get a separate drivers disk?

If not the drivers are probably on the recovery disk. So, just keep it as a backup in case you want to go back to Vista.
Use anti virus, backup your data, use google.
POST BACK EVEN IF THE HELP DOESN'T HELP.

A Thank You would be nice if I have helped.
