[U9200] wakeup+tv

Postby jmm666 » Fri May 16, 2008 18:11

2 separate questions:
1. does anyone know if vista task scheduler can wake up a laptop from hibernation (wikipedia says it can - i tried and it didnt work)? (i'd like to wake up to streaming radio...)
2. looking for a hybrid tv tuner for an expresscard 34 mm slot, preferably one that wouldnt stick out too much so as to leave it there permanently - any idea?
thanks

Task scheduler can wake a computer only if the device you are using for streaming suprts wake up feature.
What device do you use to stream ?

Real player is not a device...
It uses some of your hardware to do the streaming..
Like Audio card, Lan Card, Moded, Wireless card e.c.t.

Edit. I later saw that you use u9200...will check your hardware my self.
I haven found in any of the specifications does your Audio Card supports wake up functtion.
So to check it your self do the folowing:
1. Open "Device Manager".
2. Expand the "Audio, Video and Game Controlers" section.
3. Double click on your "Audio Card" to open propereties.
4. Click on the "Details" tab.
5. From the menu slect "Power Data"
There you can see if it supports wake up...it will look like this "WAKE_UP_FROM_D3_SUPPORTED"

If you do the streaming thru your lan card do the folowing:
I haven found in any of the specifications does your Audio Card supports wake up functtion.
So to check it your self do the folowing:
1. Open "Device Manager".
2. Expand the "Network Adapters" section.
3. Double click on your "Lan Card "to open propereties.
4. Click on the "Details" tab.
5. From the menu slect "Power Data"
There you can see if it supports wake up...it will look like this "WAKE_UP_FROM_D3_SUPPORTED"

If you use other devices to conect to the internet check them.
You can also check their settings.
So to check it your self do the folowing:
1. Open "Device Manager".
2. Expand the "Network Adapters" section.
3. Double click on your "Lan Card "to open propereties.
4. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
5. From the menu slect "Shut Down-Wake-On-Lan"
There you can set it to enabled.

ok, now the scheduler works fine, ie it wakes up the machine (i probably had some wrong setting in the task, sorry...).
but now, next problem is how to automatically log session coming out of sleep? When i boot or reboot, i'm automatically logged (am the only user), but after sleep, i have to click my session - if i'm not logged, the task won't start (of course i checked that it does when i'm logged), even tho the "perform task whether user logged or not" button is active...
(all net devices are set to allow wakeup, but that doesnt seem to matter here)
any idea?

It is a simple registry tweak, but I need to know what version is your OS ?
XP, Vista, Windows 2000 e.c.t.
I will make the regisrty tweak for you and all you need to do afterwards is to edit it, to enter your user name and pass.

peck, my registry looks different from expected: i dont have forceautologon nor autologon keys (see http://nephi.unice.fr/Depot/Depot/dohQq ... pturer.JPG (i masked user id)) and the autologonchecked folder is empty (default + no value)

Yes I know, this are not keys, but String Values that will be imported to the registry.
Just edit it as the readme says and double click on it to import the new values.
Or right click on the *reg file and select merge.
Do not have any woryes you can always delete them later.
If you have any friends that have a just a litle knoledge about computers, you can ask them. They will confirm you that the registry valuess wont couse any problem.

After this check to see if your system does the autologon as it should.
Just select logoff from the start menu and you will se that it will perform autologon.

never mind... i just found that it's very easy to autologon from sleep by changing options in advanced parameters of power management...
next problem is with the scheduler: it seems the task runs in the background - if i schedule, say, ms word, i dont see anything, but if i schedule the player, i hear the sound even tho the player is not present onscreen - how can i make the scheduler make the app appear onscreen? this is necessary to have control over the app, eg turn it off...

Very simple add the program you want to run at each logon in the Start Menu under StartUp.
It will run whenever a user logs in.
There are other metods thru the registry.
If you are interested I will make a *reg file for you.
Just give me the exact path and the name of the program you want to run.

i dont want to do that because i dont want to start that app each time i start the machine - only in the am to wake up (by the way, it's strange i cannot access my startmenu folder even tho i'm admin and security parameters say i have total control over that folder - only, i dont seem to have "special authorizations"... what are those?)
the stuff i'm tryin to schedule is: "C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\realplay.exe" with http://www.kuvo.org/stream/kuvohi.ram as argument.
there's got to be a way to do it!...

It is an interesting problem..????
So if I understand you wright, you want to run that application only when the computer comes up from slepp, but not at normal boot..
I will give it a thougnt at the morning, now it is simply to late at my time zone..curently it is 3:00 AM
Just for a temporary solution to be able to turn it off, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, it will open the task manager.
Select procesess from the tabs and shut it down.
