[Amilo Pro] SDVD8820 DVD drive won't write double layer disc

Postby scarvalhojr » Mon Jan 21, 2008 20:33

Hi all,

I'm failing to burn double layer 8.5 GB DVDs with my Philips SDVD8820 drive (Amilo Pro V3205). It manages to record the first layer fine, but fails when it attempts to start recording the second layer. I've tried different media without success. Single layer 4.7 GB DVDs are recorded without problems.

Anybody here managed to burn double layer discs with Philips SDVD8820? If yes, which media did you use?

By the way, the manual says the driver can write DL DVDs.

Obviously not...

Be patient and you may get a reply. Google the problem?

What software did you use to burn the media?

Have you looked in the settings of your used application and made sure that dual layer is enabled?

What about device manager? Any enabling options there?

Perhaps in the BIOS? Option to "enable" dual layer burning?

Yep... there seems to be many problems with this drive, but I could find out whether anyone actually managed to burn double layers...

You're too fast...

I'm using Nero Express version 6, which came with the computer, and its drive info check says writing DL is indeed supported. There's no option on device manager nor BIOS to enable DL.

Apologies, it seems I can't help you as I am inexperienced with this sort of thing.

But have you tried different software besides Nero?

Windows Media Player & Windows Media Center are the obvious ones (and probably the easiest), but there are loads more you could download and try.

Or have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Nero? Maybe it doesn't support Dual layer?

Matt

Nero does support DL. It actually starts the process of burning the second layer, but for some reason it always fails right in the beginning. It seems to be related to hardware but could also be the media.

No... but you're right. I will look if I can get other burning software.

Many thanks
