Amilo Pro V2020 DVD Drive Unable to Write on 16x DVD-R

Postby backscratcher » Tue May 09, 2006 20:49

I just found out that my Amilo Pro V2020 cannot write on 16x DVD-R blanks. However, it writes with no problems on 8x or 4x blanks.

How can I fix this? Is there a firmware upgrade on the DVD drive so that it can be able to write on the 16x blanks?

i've written to NEC, cos i have the exact same problem (the drive in my V2020 is a NEC ND-6500A) and they said that they cannot supply firmware upgrades for embedded drives, since Fujitsu would have burnt-in their own version of the firmware... however, as you point out, there are no upgrades available on the FSC site...

i hope someone takes note of this cos 8x dvd's are getting seriously scarce.

firmware crossflashing worked for me.

i have crossflashed my drive with dell's oem version.
it worked for me, however it is probably not a good warranty keeper. :D

the story started when i bought a TDK dvd-r x16 25 cake, the drive just did not recognize it.
after looking around the web i found out the obvious:
-FSC are simply sitting on the sidelines.
-Dell also uses the NEC nd-6500a.

i simply flashed the drive in my pro v2020 with the Dell one 203d:

http://support.us.dell.com/support/down ... eid=128131

further more i think i just went all the way, saying "hell, if this won't work i'll just get another drive", and i flashed the driver with the hacked firmware (no rpc) from "Liggy's and Dee's" site:

http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/NEC-ND-6500A/

everything went O.K. for me.

p.s.

there is a new Dell firmware 203e :D
i wish FSC were as good supporting as selling their products,
how stupid was i to have bought a LOOX n560 as well,
with the WM6 upcoming scandal :x

NEC ND-6500A

Postby ken255 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 19:07

Leffetripel:

I tried both the NEC 203d and 203e versions. neither worked. The software says "Target NEC ND-6500A is not found correctly" and exits.

Also, since the ND-6500A in my Fujitsu has firmware version 2.40, wouldn't 2.03 be a regression?

okay, so this is what I did:

I downloaded http://quikee.cdfreaks.com/NecDump/NecDump_1.2.3.rar

I used NecDump to make a backup of my firmware.

Then i downloaded the ORIGINAL firmwares that were version 2.xx from
http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/NEC-ND-6500A/

Using NecDump i compared the versions against the one saved from the ND-6500A (2.40), and found that the most recent was the Dell 203e.

I flashed the drive with the latter firmware using NecDump.

And... it didn't work. :(

Tried with a Maxell 16x disk (which Nero Infotool gives as a RitekF1) and Nero still rejected it as an illegal disk. In fact in the Info tool, no speeds are given for the disk, and NecDump does not list it in the Media Table for DVD-R...

At this stage it would be really great if someone from Fujitsu Support at least let us know if we're on a wild goose chase...
