My NVMe SSD is using PCIe 1.0 instead of PCIe 2.0 [Fujitsu Q558]

Postby StancuFlorin » Thu Mar 21, 2024 16:22

Greetings,

I own a Fujitsu Q558 mini PC and recently installed a new SSD into the M.2 slot, specifically a WD Black SN750 SE 500GB PCI Express 4.0 x4 M.2 2280. I did the same test with a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 2280 (with a fresh Windows install) and got the same results.

However, I've noticed that the SSD's performance is significantly slower than expected, operating at a speed of 5 GT/s. Surprisingly, it's even slower than my other SSD connected to a SATA III port, which operates at 6 GT/s (it is a WD Red SA500, 1TB, 2.5", SATA III)

According to the motherboard datasheet, the M.2 slot supports PCIe 2.0 with 2 lanes, offering speeds of up to 10Gbit/s [1].

Why is this happening? Thanks!

More details:
- Windows 10
- Intel Core i5-8500T
- Intel H310 Chipset

I have the same problem with my Q7010. Since latest bios update the bus is running at PCI-Express 1.0 x4 (2.5 GT/s) and not at PCI-Express 3.0 x4.
So my M.2 drive is running at a third of the speed it should be.

I have run the biossetgui.exe and there is nowhere to set the bus speed which is same in the bios itself

Thank you,

Indeed, I had updated my BIOS manually to the latest version (V5.0.0.13 - R1.32.0) when I initially received the PC.

However, I had to manually revert it back to version V5.0.0.13 - R1.21.0 (dated July 4, 2019), which resulted in my SSD running on PCI 2.0 now.

The process of downgrading involved enabling "BIOS rollback" from the BIOS settings and setting "BIOS update" to "restricted" to prevent Windows from automatically updating the BIOS.

Additionally, the BUS speed did not update until I reset the BIOS settings to the default configuration.

Any news on whether or not a bios update will be released to fix the PCIe error?
