Lifebook E782 (oder evtl. E752) und mSATA

Postby surfer1 » Sun Aug 11, 2013 13:46

Hallo,

Hi,
I have a Lifebook E782 with standard HDD 500GB. There is a free slot for UMTS modul. I tried to install there mSATA SSD 120GB series 525 from Intel, but unfortunately it doesn´t work (I cannot see this SSD in BIOS or WIN). There is no other free slot for mSATA disk :( Fujitsu offers this model with "SSD cache 32GB for IRST & Express Cache", but I don´t know what it exactly is and where it can be install.
Vojta.

To connect mSATA drive I had to purchase mSATA sub-board to my E752. Like this one: http://www.fujitsu-ersatzteile.de/produ ... anguage=en
It is mounted under optical drive, and connected to the mainboard through 16-pin tape. The tape was NOT included with the sub-board so I bought some cheap 16-pin 8mm wide and 20cm long tape, and cut it with scissors. The drive works with 6Gbps speed and I use half as a cache drive, and half as additional drive. You can't boot from it (BIOS doesn't see the drive).
I also had to disable Fujitsu shock sensor because it caused the system to freeze.

Hello,
thank you very much for useful info. I didn´t find any picture of mSATA sub-board. If I undestand it correctly, I should install mSATA board into the area marked with red rectangles a connect it to connector within yellow circle in my picture. Is that correct?
Thanks, Vojta.

Can anyone please confirm that this will work on a S Series S752 ?

I opened the laptop and can see the extra connector as displayed on the first screenshot above, but wanted to be 100% sure this work before ordering the FUJ:CP602075-XX coponent.

Also, will the drive only be detected inside windows? Ideally i wanted to run ESX on the laptop and be able to view the disk as a datastore, would ESX pick it up?

Is there any bios update that will display the extra drive ?

Thank You

Regards

Eilz

Another problem, but the first pcture shows the problem.

Where is there the Wlan-Modul Intel Advanced-N 6205 etc. to find? I can not see any wifi-card in the picture.

I want to change to a Intel 7260.HMWWB .

A small update:
You can boot from msata drive. You have to use uefi (CSM disabled). I booted successfully Windows 7-8.1 and Linux.

I own a E782. I tried to install a 180 GByte Intel 525 mSATA SSD and it completely crashes the BIOS of the E782. The computer is dead with the mSATA drive installed. :? Does anyone know, if you can get a drive larger than 120GByte to work? There seem to be so many issues and faults in the BIOS around that mSATA slot.

I have written to Fujitsu support to:

a) Support large disks >120GByte without crashing the BIOS
b) to boot from the mSATA SSD with CSM enabled
c) to have it recognised in the BIOS as a normal HDDR

They said a new BIOS is not planned, and the slot is only thought of for the use of Express Cache / iRST. I told them that this is yesterdays technology, and they should support disks readily available. Maybe one day we get a proper BIOS to support the mSATA slot. I wish they had a hotline where one could complain and they would listen. It cannot be that difficult to provide proper support for the mSATA slot. I cannot get the 180GByte mSATA SSD Intel 525 to work at all. In fact, once installed, you cannot even use the laptop.
