Keyboard language and cleaning (Amilo Pro 8210)

Postby jon80 » Sat Jul 02, 2011 12:29

According to Horstmann(1), CTRL+\, is used to get a thread dump on a running Java program. However, I cannot seem to get this keyboard shortcut working on my laptop, an, Amilo Pro 8210, running WinXP SP3, and, having asked about it, the author replied that the shortcut still works. This is going to be confirmed with Oracle in due course.

An alternative keyboard shortcut seems to be Ctrl+Break which seems to work, however I was left wondering, simply because I was asked how to determine what the actual physical keyboard language on the laptop is, in particular whether it is international.

Control Panel > Regional Settings indicates that the UK keyboard has been selected through the OS.

I would also appreciate guidance on cleaning the keyboard, and, whether appropriate cleaning materials would be useful:
1. Using compressed air
2. Pulling the keys out one by one and checking for dust, and the occasional sandwich crumb, however, this method is quite accident prone, and, I would like your guidance.
