Unable to start PC

Postby Stu1 » Tue Aug 21, 2007 13:28

Hi,
I have recently been unable to start up my PC. I am able to get through to the BIOS screen where I can either go to boot manage or setup i think? It then runs boot manage and comes up with

PXE-E51- No DHCP or proxy DHCP offers were received.
Operating system not found

I have not done much different recently apart from download some new firewall stuff and move the PC in my room?

At the weekend I managed to start it by doing ctrl alt del after boot manage , but that has not worked recently...

Is this a serious problem?I do not know much about PC's! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to fix it myself...

Thanks for any help/tips
Stuart

First off, try a system restore to before you added the firewall stuff.

I no expert, this is a networking problem. I found this by googling.

First solution
> Introduce a small (4 Port) HUB between the machine and the
> network. It will work. All the desktops seems to work fine
> with a 3com HUB (not switch)
>
> Second Solution
> Enable fast Port and set the speed of the port to 10/100
> full duplex from auto.

I get the impression, this won't mean much to you. It doesn't to me.

Having looked at various solutions that google found, It seems the pc is trying to boot from/via a network. Go into the bios & make sure your boot order is set to hard disk first. If it is, possibly there is a problem with the hard disk. & so the pc is trying to boot from a network. See if there is any hard disk activity on boot up.
