Qeustions about the PRIMERGY TX200 S7 HDD's

Postby Laurens.v » Wed Nov 14, 2012 13:27

First of all thank you for reading this

ive looked up the Primergy TX200 S7 (http://www.fujitsu.com/nl/products/comp ... 00-s7.html)
but i got a qeustions about the HDD's

It says the following
Intel® C602, 6-port SATA (4x for internal hard disks, 2x for accessible drives)
additional RAID controller options are described under Components RAID controller

What do they mean with 4x for internal hard disks, 2x for accessible drives?
so what is meant with the 2x for accessible drives?
do they mean that there are only 2 drives viseble and the other 4 in raid 1 or ?

and would this server be good as a File Server?

thank you for youre time

greetings
Laurens

I don't know whether "user operatable drives" would make this clearer...

Just imagine "accessible" drives as CD, DVD and the like. Drives, where you actually have the option to easily change the medium.

Whether the machine is good as a file server cannot be answered appropriately, because this ultimately depends on your needs and requirements. But: why should it not be good for this task?

SAS/SATA HDD are designed for hot swap, although you need to determine that with the respective manufacturer of the disk. Normally, it's more an issue of the controller being used, and its driver.

If you buy the disks from Fujitsu (and use their hot swap SAS controller), then hot swap shouldn't be a problem.
