Fujitsu Primergy R450 HDD problem

Postby Anaksimen » Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:57

When i try to install CentOS 6.3 on server, in select device i have no option to chose Hdd. A CentOS does not see Hdd,but other OS-s see Hdd-s. I think that there is no SCSI/Raid drivers. Anyone can help?

10+ year old server? Not much chance of CentOS drivers I wouldn't have thought. There are some SuSe and RedHat drivers on the download site though for the RAID controller (Adaptec 7899 SCSI Controller)

Yes, i think that server is old about 10years.You think that the problem is with drivers or there is something else?

As long as other OS's can see the disks correctly, it definitely is a driver issue.

You need to determine to which type of controller your drives are connected. There is an onboard fakeRAID controller (AIC7899 as Davie stated), but there may as well exist plug-in RAID controller(s) from LSI like U320-2 or (may your favorite deity save you from it) an Adaptec RAID controller like 2200 or 2120.

It might be hard though to find appropriate drivers for a recent OS on such an old hardware.

Edit:
Sorry, memory is ageing, just like those ancient boxes...
AIC7899 is not a RAID controller. Its descendent 7902 in fact is, but that's not in R450. 7899 is just a normal genuine SCSI controller chip.

If other OS editions detect the disks, you get at least an indication which type of driver is able to operate the controller. This could put you on the right trail for your desired OS.

How about sticking to OS versions that this server was designed for?

It's always risky when hardware and software release dates drift too far apart...

i can't install fibrecat s80 storage

refers to actually what?

S80 is probably as old as the R450. You need to find a way to connect it to the R450, and this depends on the type of the S80, and it requires a matching controller card in the R450.

This is my storage. When i connect it to emulex lp9002 card, does not show me any hdd-s from storage.

I instaled drivers and everything what it needs, but again and again the same. The OneCommandManager shows 2 emulex cards but there is no HDD-s, and shows links down.

And yes, i think thah the storage is old like a r450

It would be worth a query in the release notes whether OneCommandManager actually supports LP9002. Those days, the tool was called HBAnyware (or similar)...

I'm sorry, but my knowledge on those device is rather limited. I don't know whether OCM or HBAnyware would display physical disks, or just the configured logical units...

Did you configure the S80 itself to present those LUNs, made up of physical disks, to the controller device you're using?

Guess what, there's a Quick Installation Guide available at Fujitsu's manual website!
