Fujitsu Serverstart TX200 S3 Partition Problems

Hi All,

I have a brand spanking new Primergy TX200 S3 server with 3 hot plug hard drives.
I have run the server start, configure the array and then tried to set up the partitions however the partition manager always hangs and will not let me do anything. I can only reboot and get back to the same place.
I am using a USB key to hold the temporary build information.

Can anyone tell me how to get past this please?

Could you please provide more info:
- the size of the disks (and the RAID configuration)
- the version of the ServerStart CD
- the partition size you wish to create (in case the PartMan lets you)
The serial no. of the Primergy (aka Ident Number) might also come in handy...

Hi,

The hard drives are 72.8GB each in a RAID1E array.
They are connected to the internal RAID controller.
The RAID controller reports that all drives are online and working.
The ServerStart CD is version 6.609.
I want to create a 20GB NTFS partition.
The serial number is YKBN002694.

I guess you're running the installation expert mode and not the guided mode.

Did you check whether the RAID initialisation process has already finished (can be done in GAM, View, any status information)?
Did you try a smaller partition size (e.g. 15GB as suggested for W2K)?

Finally, the machine was fitted ex factory with only one disk. Are the other two of the same make, model and firmware?

Ok running in expert mode.
Same drives, all 73GB.
Can create array but all options like initialise etc are greyed out.
Now booting it tells me that serverstart CD can only be used with a Primergy server and i must remove the CD and reboot.

This is getting silly, i might send it back and stick to HP

First (and maybe most important), either the CD or the hardware complex do have a problem. According to the local regulations in your country you might want to report that problem to the dealer or manufacturer to get the box repaired. ServerStart tries to determine whether it's running on a machine it was designed to by reading the contents of an ID-PROM inside the chassis, hinged to the I2C bus. So the reason could be the CD, the ID-PROM, the I2C bus itself, or any blocking device connected to it...

Regarding the installation, are you using the GAM to create the array? Did you also create an LSI logical drive (not the C: e.g. for Win OSes, but the management unit for the RAID system)? The array in terms of the LSI controller in Primergy only refers to a collection of disks.
