format without floppy

Postby storm99 » Thu Mar 30, 2006 20:52

I have an old fujitsu liteline laptop running windows 98.
I would like to format it, however the floppy drive is not working
and as I have been quoted £230 for a new one,
I think I'll give that a miss.
I have a genuine windows 98 CD.
I have been told I can restart the computer with this CD.
I have been told I cannot restart the computer with this CD.
Can I or Can't I. any help would be appreciated.

I would presume so - im currently reformatting my laptop from CD, the difference being that mine is a newer laptop and im using a windows xp cd. Dont know whether that would make any difference?

But all i did was went into the BIOS and reordered the BOOT from list, putting CD above Floppy. Its worth a try  Hope that helped

hi trudycoleman,
thanks , but I'm reluctant to mess with it, without knowing for sure.
It still works, slow but works and I don't want to lose it.
thanks

Hi

Yes you can boot from the Win98 CD.

Go into the Bios and change the boot order to CDROM first and then restart with Win98 CD in drive

You should get an option to start win98 install from cd and just follow the prompts.
