My computer doesn't exist!? And a question:

Postby severe » Fri Feb 24, 2006 4:25

ok looking on these forums you don't seem to actually cover my computer, which seems somewhat strange.

But considering that nowhere I go or any website that I visit seems to recognise the fact that my computer exists, this has to be the best place to ask.

I bought my computer in December 2003. According to the store I bought it from it is a Fujitsu-Siemens Cordant I.

It's Pentium 4 HT, 3.00 Ghz, 512 RAM, 80 GB hard drive, with an ATI Radeon 9200 SE graphics card.

It's performance over the last 2 years has been flawless,, despite being in use for around 8 hours a day every day in that time.

However, now I need a little more from my computer, and I want to install 512 MB more RAM, doubling it.

The question is, which is the right RAM to buy? Try as I might I just can't find out what I need to buy. I know I can install it.. but I don't know what to buy.

Help!

The only other way to find out is to remove the cover (if you are happy about that) and get the spec of the RAM. Details will be on the RAM in your PC. Then you can source a chip.

It will most likley be DDR2 PC2700 / 333MHz FSB or it could be DDR2 PC3200 / 400MHz FSB.
As the PC is a couple of years old I would guess it will be the 333mhz type.

You can also try a hardware tool like SiSoft Sandra or Everest to read out the type of memory, but you should open the case to look if you have a memory slot available

what memory

Download belarc advisor, Run this program it will give you all the info you need on your computer. Go to http://www.crucial.com and use the memory advisor tool to find out which memory you need. Crucial aren’t the cheapest, but they are top notch. I have bought some cheap memory and they all failed. Most new boards need paired memory to work at their quickest, so check with the Motherboard maker’s web site.

well, that website doesn't have my computer on it, so I can't check using that.

I'm opening my computer now to see what I can see... will report back later on :P

Actually, I just downloaded a program to look at my motherboard (everest)

and for Motherboard info it came up with:

Motherboard name: GA-8ISXT

Front Side Bus Properties:
Bus Type: Intel Netburst
Bus Width: 64 bit
Real Clock: 200 Mhz (QDR)
Effective Clock: 800 Mhz
Bandwidth: 6400 MB/s

Memory Bus Properties:
Bus Type: Dual DDR SDRAM
Bus Width: 128 bit
Real Clock: 160 Mhz
Effective Clock: 320 Mhz
Bandwidth: 5120 MB/s

Chipset Bus Properties:
Bus Type: Intel Hub Interface
Bus Width: 8 bit
Real Clock: 67 Mhz (QDR)
Effective Clock: 267 Mhz
Bandwidth: 267 MB/s

Motherboard Physical Info:
CPU Sockets/Slots: 1 socket 478
Expansion Slots: 5 PCI, 1 AGP
RAM Slots: 4 DDR DIMM
Integrated Devices: Audio, LAN, IEEE-1394
Form Factor: ATX
Motherboard Size: 240 mm x 300 mm
Motherboard Chipset: i865PE

Does this tell me anything about what kind of RAM I can/should get?

This is some more info from the everest report...

this show my memory right?

But I still can't figure out what I'm looking for in new memory

I cant belive it.
Today I decided to buy some new Memory, Spent ages trying to find out what type I needed. Couldn't even find my Pc model on anyweb sites. But I come to Fujitsu Siemens Web and the first message I see "My computer Doesn't exist" is having the same problem as me. And we've both got the same pc!! Such a small world...

OK anyway. I dont know much about ram, I borght some about 5 years ago and it was a right kurfuffle. Luckly you've managed to find some information out for me. So I guess Im looking for some sort of DDR SDRAM ,But what Mhz? and EEC or Non-EEC?

Any Info you can give would be Great.

well.... since I'm the one asking for help, I can't really help lol.

But I have been reading around and so far I think I need:

2 x 256 mb RAM

The information about my computer seems to say I've got 2 x 256, so 2 more should do the trick.

DDR SDRAM sounds about right too.

the info I collected says:

Memory Speed PC2700 (166 MHz)

for DDR RAM I was told you double that number to get the speed you're looking for.

So, I guess it's 333 Mhz for the speed.

So to sum I think i need:

2 x 256 MB DDR SDRAM 333 Mhz

The question is, am I right? Hopefully someone will be able to come and tell me...

*waits*

edit: also.. what other info do I need?

Names Base FSB Speed DDR RAM Speed
PC-1600 or DDR-200 l 100MHz l 200 MHz
PC-2100 or DDR-266 l 133MHz l 266 MHz
PC-2400 or DDR-300 l 150MHz l 300 MHz
PC-2700 or DDR-333 l 166MHz l 333 MHz
PC-3200 or DDR-400 l 200MHz l 400 MHz

Ok Ive just been looking around and I found this..
And when My Pc starts up it says Somthing about 333Mhz dual memory or somthing. Sooo Pc-2700 memory. But I dont think you need to buy
2 x256mb ram
I think 1 x512mb ddr sdram pc-2700 would do incase you need to up date in future. unless its cheaper to buy 2 x 256
I know when I bourght Ram for my last Pc it was RD RAM which I had to buy in Pairs for it to work (which was really expensive), But I dont think its the same for DDR SDRAM.

I found this on Amazon. Now I dont know anything about the companys that make ram But I guess theres good and bad companys. The Last ram I bought was from Kingston which was great, But I dont know What anyone thinks of ByteStor.

Can some one tell me if this Ram would work?

This Cordant is the best Pc Ive ever had to say theres only 2 of em in the world..

I put my question on there and got all the answers I wanted last night and today.

Since our computers seem pretty much the same, take a look :)

And yeah, ours are the only 2 in the world rofl

Can you see any diffrence in performace?
I orderd some yestarday. "Jam" on the other web site was so helpful.

Good luck and thanks for the Help Severe(even though you came here for help). Ta ta

Well in terms of gaming, yes, it makes a massive difference :)

I'm also looking forward to playing Oblivion but right now my game of choice is 'world of warcraft'

It slowed my computer down heavily when entering a complicated area (such as a main city), but I tried it again today after installing the RAM and nothing! Flawless, no more waiting for my computer to catch up.

Such a luxury -_-

Definately worth it.
