Scenic X101 - Reboots Repeatedly after Windows Update

Postby Jonbg » Sat Jun 17, 2006 2:24

After downloading and installing the latest express updates for Windows XP SP2, a Scenic X101 (Celeron) keeps rebooting. It starts booting Windows, but after 5 - 10 seconds it does a BIOS reboot.

I've tried this with two installations of Windows XP SP2. Same result. :?

Any ideas??

Hello Jon,

does the system also reboot in safe mode? If not, it seems so, that a driver causes this reboots.
Do you have any error entries in the event log?

Think I found the reason

Yes, it booted fine in safe mode. I tried rolling back various drivers, but before I found the culprit, the system blue-screened with STOP error 000000ED, so I got suspicious of the hard disk. It turned out to be a problem with the cabling. I was using a 40 pin cable. After I put the system disk on a 80 pin cable, the problem seems to have disappeared, but I am re-installing and re-updating just to be sure.
