T-Bird Plus PIII - Max expandable RAM ?

Postby dylanoldspot » Tue Oct 20, 2009 21:51

Hi
I'm trying to extend the useful life of my ageing FS T-Bird PIII 500MHz PC. Currently has installed 3 x 128MB SDRAM. Would like to expand to 3 x 256MB. Have previously tried to install a single stick of 256MB RAM, but was only recognised as being 128MB. Using the Crucial website, the max size of supported RAM offered is 128MB. From further web investigations, it would seem that it is the VIA chipset on the motherboard that is the limiting factor, hence a BIOS upgrade would not address the above problem.

Motherboard is BIOSTAR M6VBE, model No - VTB2C692BX.
BIOS Type - Award Modular BIOA v4.51PG
BIOS ID - 07/06/1999-692-596-8671-2A6LGB09-00
Chipset - VIA 82C691 rev 6

Can anyone confirm whether;
1) 384MB RAM (3x128) is the max amount of RAM that this motherboard will support.
2) If it will support 768MB(3x256MB) what would I need to do to achieve this.

Thanks in anticipation
Dylan
