[D1567-C33] can't disable onboard graphics

Postby blindmanbruce » Thu Jan 01, 2009 2:02

I received a new graphics card as a gift. My motherboard D1567-C33 has onboard intel graphics and a 4x/8x AGP slot and 6 PCI slots. (I am currently using my onboard intel graphics). Unfortunately, the gift board was PCI. I would have liked an Agp 8x instead... but I have no receipt and it appears I am stuck with the PCI board. (PNY Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS 512MB PCI.)
There are no BIOS settings to select between AGP or PCI. The only choice is AGP aperture size. I installed the gift PCI board in slot 1 and the result was no display on bootup.

I've downloaded the motherboard manual and can find no reference in the Bios or jumper settings that would disable the onboard video. It seems rather unbelievable that a board with 6 PCI slots would not allow you to install a PCI video card.

I'm at a dead end. If anyone knows a way to disable the onboard video I would appreciate their advice. (I tend to think that this board only supports onboard AGP and 4x/8x Agp boards). -My system OS is WinXP PRo SP2.

I'm not certain about this, but, the card "sounds" too new, it might actually be PCI-E. So although it physically fits, its not compatible.

This http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr84512gsp.aspx says it needs PCI 2.

Read this http://www.welovemacs.com/howcanitedib.html as well.
Use anti virus, backup your data, use google.
POST BACK EVEN IF THE HELP DOESN'T HELP.

A Thank You would be nice if I have helped.

Thank You for the reponse Bubblegum,

Let me clarify the type of graphics board I have... My card is manufactured by PNY and is fairly new, I believe this graphics card came out in early 2008.
In PNY's "GeForce 8 series" this is the only board that is PCI. http://www3.pny.com/category_buymulti.aspx?Category_ID=269.

Looking at PNY's product description page, the box says PCI, they list it as PCI, BUT in their own product specifications they say Bus Technology is PCI-e. :? I've already contacted PNY tech support- it is PCI not PCI-e. They make a 8400 GS in PCI-e but it is the 256MB low profile board not the 512MB one.

There is some confusion about this board throughout the internet... On many websites I've seen it listed as PCI-e even though it is PCI.
For example,
http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/pny-verto-nvidia-geforce/4505-8902_7-33367410.html< they say it's PCI-e even though the box says PCI!

http://review.zdnet.com/product/graphics-cards/pny-verto-nvidia-geforce-8400-gs-pci-e-512mb/33367410<headline says PCI-e but article lists it as PCI.

The box I have is labeled PCI, the board itself is labled PCI and the board connector looks like PCI. Here's a link that shows a picture of the board I have. http://www.buy.com/prod/pny-geforce-8400-gs-512mb-ddr2-64-bit-pci-directx-10-video-card/q/loc/101/208535081.html

:) Does anyone know how to disable the onboard graphics for this motherboard (Fujitsu-Siemens D1567-C33)?
(my motherboard BIOS is already at the most recent revision).

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Well I finally found the BIOS setting. :D
The option allows selection for either AGP or PCI video. It was under General settings buried in a submenu under Boot Options. I looked at least a dozen times prior to this and never saw it. It's not in the manual for the motherboard (as a matter of fact, no BIOS settings are covered in the manual - you're on your own). I thought it would have been under Advanced settings for the PCI BUS... wrong.
Even after this discovery it still took about 30-45 minutes of trial and error before the board was recognized under windows. PNY has very little covered in the video card installation manual. It basically says... plug it in and it will work. Wrong. As a matter of fact, I went to PNY's website to get the most recent driver and the driver covered all 8400 series boards, but the 8400 series encompasses both PCI and PCI-E. Anyway it seems to be working, the strange thing is that when I run a freeware video card detector such as GPU-Z v3... it says that the card is PCI-e x16?! (Probably because the driver is for PCI-e).
After all is said and done, I'm not very happy with PNY as far as all the confusion between PCI vs. their PCI-e products. It seems this is not the first time this issue for this particular board has been raised. You think they would clarify things on their website and in their manual etc... However, they just leave things the way they are.

I thank the forum for their input and I hope this topic will be helpful to someone else in the future.
