Loud whirring noise from laptop

Postby SmackheadPete » Wed Dec 19, 2007 10:19

Hi,

I know someone is probably just going to tell me to get down the repair shop but last night my Amilo laptop started making a horrendous whirring noise, almost like a disc was stuck inside in, or grating on something. There's no disk/cd in it and was wondering if anyone could offer some helpful advice on what it could be?

It could be either a build up of dust/fluff in the cpu fan throwing it off balance or the cpu fan is packing up (stuffed bearing maybe).
Give the fan and heatsink a good (and very carefull) clean out and see if it makes a difference.
Of course it may also be the HDD dying but lets try the simplest first

Hi,

Cheers for the reply. Got back home and switched it on, wooohooo, no noise, only for it to not work at all. Big blue screen saying Windows detected and error and could not boot up. Tried starting it in safe mode and it won't even do that, just goes back to the blue screen of death.

I'm a complete computer novice in terms of this sort of stuff. Does anyone have any idea of how I can try and get it to work or should I just admit defeat and take it the repair shop??!!!

Boot the recovery cd, & get to the recovery console.

Try chkdsk /r

Use anti virus, backup your data, use google.
POST BACK EVEN IF THE HELP DOESN'T HELP.

A Thank You would be nice if I have helped.
