R640 cpu microcode update

Postby Feargal » Wed Mar 23, 2011 20:28

I have an R640 with dual E5160's which works fine. I have aquired two E5450's that I wish to install. The system posts but will not boot with these chips in. I have determined that the problem may be solved by a microcode update patch.

I dutifully downloaded the patch from Fujitsu & ran it, only to discover it does not support the D1808 board.

Question: 1) where can I get an appropriate microcode patch
Or
2) can I flash the BIOS with the much newer, updated Tyan BIOS

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Thanks for a reply Sabrex, Bios is Ver 1.09.1808 03/18/2008. The system will start, displaying the various configuration settings with the F2 / F12 message at the bottom of the screen, it will then proceed to the LSI sas configuration which completes successfully. It then returns to the first screen as above an stops. If you press F2 you get the message "entering setup.... please wait".

I have waited for over two hours, it does not move from this screen with the E5450's in place. When I re-installed the E5160's and was able to access the bios, the bios event log shows some reference to a microcode patch being required. Unfortunately I did not write it down & the log is now clear.

So, as my original post, why doesn't the fujitsu microcode update (available from the support website) support the D1808 board, is there a patch available anywhere else, or can I use the Tyan bios which does support the 2696 ( D1808 )

Any advice most welcome. The E5450's weren't cheap & I hate to think I've wasted my cash.

I'm also very disappointed that Fujitsu appear to cease support for their very expensive products so quickly.

It would appear the E5450's are not supported the highest spec i can see what is supported is the 5365's.
*pic motherboard manual on processor type for the motherboard.

Once the motherboard is checked the answer becomes clear. It doesnt support and was never supposed to work with 5400's

Thanks again for replying.

I just checked back with Tyan & it looks like your right. I have been mistakenly looking at the Tyan Tempest i5000x. This board is a Tyan Tempest i5000xt.
Big whoops. Oh well, I'll just have to find a new system to put these processors into.

Thanks again
