[P2510] Ram Issue

Postby DerrickHobson » Thu Jun 18, 2009 14:11

My co-worker has a ESPRIMO Edition P2510 with 1GB of ram which needs to be upgraded to 2GB. I purchased the relevent chip and put it in the system however it still only shows 1GB.

Chip A = Existing Chip
Chip B = New Chip

If I put in Chip A, BIOS shows me 1GB
If I put in Chip B, BIOS shows me 1GB
If I put in Chips A+B (in either order), BIOS still shows me 1GB

Therefore both chips work but not together.

Chip A = 1GB DDR2-PC4200
Chip B = 1GB DDR2-PC4200 (Corsair Value Select)

On paper both should work together, any reason why they don't?

Is this a BIOS issue or is there a possible RAM difference?

Any ideas??

I've phoned up Fujitsu support repeatedly
I've phoned up CCL (where I bought the chip) repeatedly
I've phoned up Fujistu's Spare Parts team (who were surprised by a technical question even though support told me to call them)

I've updated the BIOS (as suggested by CCL and Fujitsu)
I've been told that it should allow 2GB by Fujitsu
I've been told by CCL that the chips are the same rating

Somebody at Fujitsu must know why their hardware cannot run 2 identical chips

I've built and upgraded many PCs and this is the only one which I have ever had problems with, certainly makes my company not want to buy any more Fujitsu PCs for the office.

Help line is helpless and the help forum is ignored.
