[Q5000] CPU upgrade

Postby AngelGR » Thu Aug 28, 2008 20:36

Hi. I'd like to upgrade my Q5000 with a new processor. It has not warranty, so no problem for Fujitsu-Siemens.
Could I use a Core 2 Duo 7200? Does it need a BIOS update? If yes, where can I download it?
Thanks and best regards.

Core 2 duo 7200 does not go.

Thanks for your answer, but I disagree.
From Anandtech (see chipset/processor compatibility):
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh ... i=2808&p=1

Backwards Compatibility
Intel's Core 2 Duo mobile launch is one of those very rare moments in Intel history where a brand new CPU is introduced and it is backwards compatible with existing motherboards.
If you've got a Core Duo notebook with a PGA Socket-M interface, all you should need is a BIOS update and a Core 2 Duo CPU to upgrade your notebook.
[...]
If you've got a 945GM or 945PM equipped notebook, then the Core 2 Duo should be a drop in replacement for your Core Duo processor.

So I'm almost sure that the processor is compatible, the only question is if the Q5000 could need a BIOS update. If yes, I can't find updates from Fujitsu-Siemens, so maybe a processor upgrade can't be done.
A second option is a BIOS from AOpen (the motherboard manufacturer), but I don't know the exact/equivalent BIOS of AOpen for the Esprimo Q5000.
