Voltage supply

Postby magnus.lundberg » Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:18

Hello!

Can I run my Lifebook E8420 on a 12V Lead-acid battery?

The normal DC input can probably (like most other electronic devices) handle a wide range of voltages (maybe 10-20V?) and not just the 19V that the normal AC-adapter provides. What are the limits here? This would of cause be the preferred way of adding capacity.

If that's not possible, can I somehow connect the battery through the “normal battery connections”? The Li-ion batteries have a 10.8V nominal voltage which probably means that it can handle charging voltages of at least 12.3-12.6V. This would make it possible to connect a Lead-acid battery here, at least if the voltage was between 10? and 12.5V? Or...?

Please advice me since I am reluctant to start experimenting since I don't whant to damage the laptop or risk overheating the battery.
I may add that I have already bought the second battery but this is far from sufficient for my needs. I need another 3-400Wh in addition to the 75+41 I already have.

Best Regards
/Magnus
