[S7220] How can I enable Intel VT-d?

Postby markwilson » Wed May 19, 2010 11:13

I have a Lifebook S7220 with the latest BIOS (v1.15) installed. I'd like to install Citrix XenClient but the setup tells that VT-x is enabled but VT-d is disabled.

I know that VT-x is a CPU function and I can see it enabled in the BIOS.

VT-d is chipset-dependant and it does not appear to have a BIOS option to enable it. A friend with a Lenovo ThinkPad T400 with the same chipset (GM45) and Southbridge (Intel 82801IM (ICH-9M)) is able to activate VT-d on his machine, so I'm wondering what the limitation is with my Lifebook S7220 - especially as Intel's documentation suggests that the Moble Intel 4 Series Express chipset (GM45) supports VT-d (http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/320122.pdf).

Is there an alternative way to enable VT-d on the Lifebook S7220?

(Please don't tell me that Xen Client is not yet supported - I know the difference between "supported" and "capable", what I'm looking for here is authoritative advice on the capabilities of my notebook).

Regards, Mark
