[T5010] Heat Problems! Support, clarification needed.

Postby Razznuts » Tue Aug 18, 2009 17:49

Dear Technical Support,

I've been using using my T5010 only for a few weeks (New),

I'm quite concerned with the heat produced by this tablet,
At idle, the temperature won't go below 50°C
At normal use (browsing, spreadsheet, light photoshop editing) it'll go as high as 60-70°C
At 100% CPU usage, (Gaming, video encoding, Prime95 torture test) The CPU temperature will rocketed to 70-90°C.

The temperatures were measured using included Fujitsu hardware diagnosis utility.

The fan definitely were kicking at high CPU usage,
I do always using my T5010 on a flat surface to ensure the air intake & outtake wouldn't get obstructed by anything.

I'm started to worrying that my T5010 is defective, I need confirmation whether this issue affects all T5010 or is it only me?

Thanks in advance,
RaZZ

I am having similar excessive heat issue. I read from another forum that a batch of T5010 was assembled without a heat shield. I wonder if that is the cause for my problem. I am going to send my T5010 to the service center next week to see they can fix it.

Hi Helitron,

Thank you very much for your reply,
Glad to know that actually I'm not alone.

Could you keep me updated after you've got your T5010 back from service center?
I really would like to know what exactly our problem is.

Best regards,

RaZZ

Hi Razz,

I just got my T5010 back from the service center and their reply ...CPU and laptop temperature is within standard...laptop is assembled with heatpad...fan is working.

I have attached a thermal photo showing my T5010 in a 22 degrees C office. There is a hot spot of 40 degrees under the ALT key. TheT5010 is really uncomfortable to use outside of air conditioned environment (Singapore temperature is 25 to 35 deg. C whole year round).

I am disappointed with Fujitsu's standard. My confidence in Fujitsu and Made-in-Japan products has dropped a notch.

Regards,
Helitron

Helitron,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I also got my T5010 back from Service Center with more-or-less the same reply, :? except the Fujitsu's guy said he updated the BIOS (seemed to be a generic version of BIOS and I lost my system model in BIOS EEPROM, he didn't notice it, later I have to ask him to reinput the model, goodness he inputted incomplete data, too lazy to take my T5010 back again) and and re-applied the thermal paste.

My CPUs temperatures did drop at least 10 degrees, but still it tends to be warm and it refuses to go below 50 deg. C. My HDD often reached 60 deg. C, which is a critical temperature for HDD, let alone the discomfort it makes. My T5010 literally become a miniature heater when I'm using it on Slate mode. The heat distribution is exactly the same as the one showed on your thermal photo. The HDD is located exactly beneath the left armrest btw, that's why it's so hot right there) Anyway my ambient temperature should be similar to yours, here in Jakarta.

Funny enough, Fujitsu Indonesia said they're going to ask for clarification from Singapore branch, well, it seems I've already got the answer, eh? :?

Just FYI, I've been asking many T5010 users over the Internet regarding this issue, and they said they barely feel heat on their T5010.(most got European build FWIW).

T5010 sold in Indonesia supposed to be the same with the one sold in Singapore (imported), could it be they both were a bad batch with whatever unknown problem?

Regards,

Razz

Yes, it heats a lot. It is the same for my T1010. When I got bios updated to 1.13. The NB went into black screen. See link bellow for details.
