Amilo Pi 1505 - can it boot from USB stick? [SOLVED]

Postby darkduck » Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:37

Hi,
I have FS Amilo Pi 1505.
I want to boot it up from 8 GB USB stick where Live image of Debian GNU/Linux is.
When I select USB as boot option after F12, I got "Operating system not found".
Same stick works OK on different laptop. And even on same laptop when booting in QEMU (virtual machine).
BIOS is updated to the latest available (v.1.14)

I found couple of question in the Internet about USB boot options, saying this is impossible. But they are rather old and I thought that freshest BIOS solved the issue.

Have anybody managed to boot Pi 1505 from USB?

Thank you!

Let me answer myself.
Solution is on Debian's site: http://www.debian.org/CD/live/
There are 2 types of images available: hybrid (the one I tried before) and...
USB-HDD
Image files suitable for writing to USB keys of the appropriate size. This format is offered in case the BIOS of your system cannot handle booting hybrid ISO images from USB keys.

Second (USB-HDD) image worked fine. It means that FS BIOS does not support hybrid images.
