Trying to figure out exactly what CPU, and how much memory i can fit to this.
I haven't been able to locate specs for the motherboard, it claims to be a 255KI/259KI, but that still hasn't been rendering me a whole lot. Guessing Google isn't the best place to start looking, does anyone know a better starting point?
I think, still guessing, it's a micro 754. That should limit me to mobile A64/Turions up to 2.2Ghz. (Edit. I actually found out they made a Turion designated ML-44, a 1MB cache, 2.4Ghz part. Still no idea as if to the motherboard supports it. I've been able to confirm that the latest bios does indeed add unspecified Turion support, and it is a socket 754, so i might grab one, and try it out. If i do, i'll report back.) If, the motherboard supports the whole CPU range, which the manual kinda indicates... But then again, I'm assuming the manual was made b4 they renamed the CPU to Turion, and hence nobody really knew about the specs of the last few in the family...

Also, if anyone has any idea where to find it. I wouldn't mind a service manual. I think the CPU change is fairly straight forward, seams the entire heatsink assembly is detachable through the bottom hatch, and then the CPU is a easy swap, but it would be nice to confirm...

I have the same machine and try to upgrade Ram and possibly CPU. I'll report any success.

Please do. I have been unable to score a ML-44 so i've been holding of on the upgrade, but i did stick 2x 512MB memory in it. Works.

I stuck a pair of A-data DDR400 2.5v 1GB memory in mine since the above post. Works like a charm. Tried a pair of Kingston DDR400 1GB parts, that didn't specify voltage, that didn't work. (memory is ok, just doesn't work in the laptop, i suspect they want 2.6v)
Stuck a ML-40 in it, also works as a charm. As far as i've been able to figure out, ML-44 is the top end, but i'll keep my eye out for some of the closely related (pin compatible) x2 cpu's and see if that will run... Might have heat/power issues if it boots tho.
Finally, i stuck a 100GB harddrive in it. The fastest one i could find, actually. (one of the fastest pata 2.5" drives so far. Hitachi model # HTS721010G9AT00)

As you would expect, battery time isn't really that great, both since the battery isn't what it used to be, but also, well, powerdrain has gone up you know?
But it works, perfectly.

Yes, the RAM upgrade was fine, though i only have 1G as it seems enough. I havent learnt a thing about better CPU, but i think it wiil stay as it is for the time being. I put 160G in, it works fine. i might chance to buy a new model, if i want better performance.

Have you tried X2 processor? sounds unreal...

As far as i know, AMD switched socket, so there are no Turion X2 CPU's that fits. (They went from a mobile 754 socket, to a S1G1/S1G2 thing. Mainly due to tacking on a second memory channel to the integrated memory controller.) Seeing as i can confirm that the ML-40 is still working in my laptop, it seams safe to say that the entire ML-XX range is supported, be it unofficial. For someone who can get their hands on a ML-44, a 2.4GHz part, it's not a all that bad laptop even with todays standards. It's not going to be competitive when it comes to gaming, but for pretty much everything else, it's more then able. Heck, my 2.2GHz part (ML-40) is holding me over just fine.
