[XA 3530] Task Manager can see only 2.3GB instead of 4GB

Hi All,

I've just bought a brand new Amilo XA 3530 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bits OS, 512MB ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics and it has 4GB physical memory. This is the factory configuration. After installing the OS I realized that the BIOS and the System Information shows 4GB, but the Task Manager shows only 2261MB total physical memory.
The Notebook came with BIOS v2.05 and I updated it to the latest v2.07, but it did not help at all.

To make it more understandable I made two screenshots and I marked with red color the two oposite values.

Can anybody help me how I can get the remaining 1.2 GB visible in the Task Manager?
Or, Is it hardware problem?

No it is not a hardware problem.

Windows Vista x32 bit version with SP1 is able to display real system memory information but it does not mean windows will address it.

You could use Physical Address Extension (PAE) in 32-bit Windows Vista, and the operating system will be able to address memory larger than 4 GB - "BCDEdit /set PAE forceenable" but I wouldn't advise you to do this.

I would recommend you to install vista x64 bit version if you want to use all 4GB of RAM.

You dont need to install the Vista 64bits version. Just upgrade your vista to SP1 version and problem solve

No, he needs to Install windows Vista x64. By upgrading to SP1 it will only show that you have 4GB in System Properties. However if you open the task manager and check total physical memory available it will not reserve 4GB.

I have have 4GB and Windows Vista x32 with SP1 on a FS Xi3650. The system properties says I have 4GB but the operating system uses only 3GB.

Windows 32-bit can/will only address less than 4Gb of memory! There is no service pack or patch to overcome this limit.

And computer must support at least 8 Gb RAM to address/use 4Gb.
